I want to know if anyone has put the BIG big bore job on their bike and how well it holds up in the long run. Any issues with heat? Is it something for a daily driver to have? If someone has had it on their bike give me mileage too. Thanks. |

Which big bore kit are you exactly looking at? There are different bore sizes. |

Justin Can't say my evaluation is long term, just over 3700 miles. My S3 has a Zippers 88" torque version. Has their jugs, their machined heads with port work and over sized valves, redshift 632 cams, roller rockers, piston squirter mod some other minor stuff. This motor is smoother than my stock engines. The oil temp measure at the oil tank runs in the 190 to 210 range (I have a jag oil cooler installed) and have not noticed excessive oil usage or oil in the catch can. No heating problem. I don't have to run the motor as hard as before. Last tank of gas out running the back roads SW of Richmond low was about 43 mpg and high was 48 mpg. My buddy was on an 07 R1 had no problem hanging with him. I have said this before but this is the motor that Buell should have built. If you have to split the cases and can put the cash together I would recommend an 88 of this build for the street. If not a 1250, head work, cams and balancing. There are several site sponsors that can do this work. Joe |

I put over 30,000 miles on a 88" 97 S3T after doing the mod. (see my profile) The bike had several thousand miles on it when I did the engine mods. The bike had around 80,000 on it when I sold it. Mine too was smoother than a stock engine. The one thing I would caution about is not to get too high with the compression if you want to ride it everyday and anywhere. |

John I ended up with just a touch over 10.2:1. If your are going to be in debt might as well be for some thing that casts a smile on your face. With the old motor I would go to pass a car and my buddies FZ1 would blow past me. Now he has to wait for awhile to pass me, the roll on from around 45 to 50 is just instant. The only two concerns are rear tyre braking loose coming out of first gear turns. The second is WOT in first will jerk the front up at about 3200-3500. These challenges just teach you to be smooth. It makes the weak link in the program more apparent, got to get some more training. Joe |
