OK I just got the FMF slip on! It sounds very gay and muffled but neighbours like it and it is sure better than nothing.. The previous owner only used the rear mount and the header clamp.. No front mount. Is that a good idea? I mean using only those two? I guess it could be since it is very light weight carbon fibre... If not I will need to make some front mount within 3 or so hours so I can ride to work tomorrow.. Hence the "ASAP" in topic line Here is a photo of the muffler and the front of it (didn't take one of rear mount since that is OK).

i would not consider running one without the front mount, i have seen too many break and fall off even with the old style front mount. |

OK I'll try to fix something then! Maybe a clamp like the one in the rear |

At least temporary until you can build a bracket I would suggest a large screw hose clamp around the pipe just before the muffler to the bracket. Quick and should hold nicely even if its a little fugly |

Impala you mean between pipe and front mount? So as the pipe hangs from mount? |

Running without a front mount is a good way to snap an exhaust bolt on your head. |

There has already been a grievous injury sustained by a forum member who cobbled together an exhaust that fell off and catapaulted him off the bike at speed. Don't mess around here. Make sure the muffler is mounted in an appropriate fashion, especially up front. |

Yes from the front mount to the pipe itself just like it would if there was a bracket attached to the pipe. It will take the pressure off of the rear mount and the exhaust bolts. The big clamps are designed to hold quite a bit of weight. |

I have it fixed now. Looks rather gypsy but should be OK. Will post pics in a few hours. |

Front mount had wrong eye-to-eye measure (I guess I shouldn't trust my eyes 100% anymore..) so will have to drill a new hole in front holder. But here is rear holder, unpainted still (wanted to try it before I sprayed it): And here is a full view of bike:

That pipe doesn't look sturdy enough to hold up on the Buell. Make sure you do a pre and post ride inspection each time so it doesn't bite you |

Will do pre inspections for sure, the piece of **** is falling apart piece by piece haha I think its light weight and un-sturdiness is what will keep it working though!! As long as it is mounted in a way that makes it hang a bit "loose" (dunno how to describe it better) JOS: Yep proper hooligan bike ;D |

The rubber mounts allow the engine to shake like a paint mixer all the time. The exhaust is bolted to the engine, see? The exhaust MUST be connected with insanely beefy straps and must also be made out of stronger stuff. That looks too much like a jap bike exhaust to me. I don't think it's going to last. I hope I'm wrong. sorry ;( |

Well the exhaust is rubber mounted as well!! The holes in the mounts are about 1" big, and inside of them there is a thick rubber ring in which the bolt is insterted.. Hard to explain, but it is rubber mounted |

if you are going to compromise with something like tires or a buell muffler mount, always scan from side to side while youre riding... that way you can find a soft place to crash... |

Your bike does look badass, man. If you can make it through these problems, you might find yourself with a bullet proof motorcycle. Just about every problem you've had has been encountered and overcome by members of this board. You're on your way to becoming a pretty good mechanic whether you realize it or not with these bikes. Every successful tube frame owner is handy with the tools I've noticed. |

There was a guy here from Canada who ran a m2 or s1 without the front attached using a vance and hines. He said he did it for along time and never had a problem. ???? |

With the right amount of torque applied to the bolt, anything is possible. Doesnt make it correct though. Be smart and use all avenus of mounting. It will save you a headache some where, some time! Hope to see some of ya'll at the WV ride. |
