so i found my bike on craigslist sitting in somebodys garage for 3 years unused. it BARELY ran on the way home. i changed the spark plus, did a full oil change and ran some fuel conditioner through it. ive run 102 octane gas through it a couple times and it STILL wants to misfire throughout the RPM range. it goes away with some good fuel additives but only for that tank. i ordered up a HSR 42 carb to see what that will do for the bike... and i am about to upgrade the entire ignition system just to make it stop misfiring!! anyone else have this problem?? |

Pizzaboy, The Mikuni may help if the carb is gummed up just because you're replacing a gummed up carb with a new one. In terms of HP the Mikuni won't do anything for the bike. Have you pulled the carb, replaced the intake seals, cleaned the air filter, etc? Chances are if it was sitting the rubber bits are toast. Replace the plug wires if you haven't already, clean and rejet the CV40 (they're really very simple to work on - check the KV for help on that) and if you still think it's the ignition the best upgrade I did on my S2 when stock was replace the ignition with a Screaming Eagle/Dyna piece. A well sorted CV40 can run pretty flawlessly. My S2 (esp. after Liberty dyno-tuned it) doesn't stutter, misfire, or pop on decel at all, and the a/f mix is pretty much dead-on right across the rpm range. If you haven't already, grab a service manual from your dealer, or see if one is on ebay - they pop up there from time to time. |

+1 on remove the carb and intake, replace the seals, disassemble/clean/rejet/reassemble the carb. Go to a hobby store and get a set of dental picks just in case - they're great if you have hard stuff stuck in the jets (figured that one out on my mother-in-law's Nash). |
