OK I am getting RATHER tired of my X1.. Only had it for 4 months and first rear shock broke and now this?!!!

What do I do? Is it serious? Can I still ride?
To me it looks like engine hangs loose!!

What do I do?

Replace the mount with a stronger unit. I use the NRHS billet mount. It's 'spendy' but it might not be that expensive in Sweden because of the devaluation of the American dollar.

Is it serious?

Yes.

Can I still ride?

No.

It is hanging loose.

Not everyone has suffered this failure (not me) but it happens enough to warrant a proper investigation by Buell, in my opinion. The consequences of failure at speed could be dire.

Hopefully, XLdevil (Ralph, from Germany) with see this thread and elaborate on the Stenzel Stutze he installed on the his frame.

XL/Buell heads.

Sorry to hear that! Trust me, get new bolts that holds it in, and if those come out without breaking, then breaking the mount is OK.

Shearing those bolts freaking blows.

Some guys have the worst luck!

And where do I get original?
Don't want to invest too much into it, if I am to sell it.

If the bolts holding the now-broken bracket to the head break off in the head, life gets crappy, quick.

Email me jgoetz@hdoffrederick.com and I will look up the factory part number for you. I work for a dealership. If you like, I can even mail the part directly to you with new bolts. Or you can check with Al at American Sport Bike (www.americansportbike.com) - he should have both the stock and billet mounts, and I know he has the bolt kits.

It is a relatively easy piece to install, just make sure to torque it correctly or you risk breaking another one. I can send manual pages if you don't have a manual. Just let me know : )

What ever you do, do not blame buell or the engineering of the mount. That mount was removed and reinstalled by someone that did not follow service manual procedures as evidence by the socket head cap screw used.

Forget the bolts, get some 7/16-14 x3-3/8 studs, run them in tight and forget about the broken bolt problem.
As far as the broken mount, it sounds like the previous owner was a wheelie addict.
Its a great bike once you fix all the little quirks.

Grovs - if you are considering the NRHS mount, you might as well take the opportunity to add the XB heads. As mentioned, a different mount will be needed. If you do add the heads, might as well throw the NRHS bases on as well and swap any paper gaskets for the Cometics.

Thanks everybody! This forum really is something huh! Never came across such helpful ppl before!

I am contacting that Homebrewed1 guy that Wardan tipped about.
I am kinda broke now that I just bought new rear shock and ECM so not sure about getting a NRHS.

Sadly enough I can't even get to work today, I was to take the bike but I don't really feel safe riding it.

The XB heads are a popular upgrade for tubers. It will add a few HP and better breathability. This will cut down on blow-by, which likes to end up on your right leg.It is not a must have, but a nice addition. Here is the kit; http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/A20000.html

I'm currently making 3 more mounts myself & friends.

1 with XB heads, and 2 with XL/Buell heads.

Remember that this bike used the engine as a fully stressed member of the frame so it's NOT SAFE TO OPERATE right now.

Someone went in there before you and messed it up with wrong screws.

my understanding is that the XB heads do flow better, but the XB cams are less aggressive giving it that more "refined" feeling.
The S3 heads don't flow as well, but it has more aggressive cams. That is why they are advertised with the same HP.
Put the better heads with the more aggressive cams and you will have more HP.....

XL1200R heads have the same port design(FLOW)/valves and are a bolt on RETRO-FIT(front motor mount bolts right up) !!!
Although "i" have not this yet myself, it looks like the easier way(and $$$.$$) to go with ???

The OEM factory front motor mount will work just fine if installed properly ...

Had one one of the bolts break which over stressed the front motor mount causing it to break ...

When "i" installed the new one properly,
ie: put it together(anti-size on the head bolts) ... With everything finger tight, engine weight on the mount, "i" then properly TORQUED everything to SPEC's. ...

Now have over 100k miles since installed and NO PROBLEMS !!!

XL1200R heads are identical to XB heads. Except they have the carb mounting bosses drilled and tapped, and are powdercoated black. The front mount is identical to the XB heads. They are also MORE expensive than XB heads.

Shawn, sorry, right now, I can't run another one for a while. And I wont sell 'em to badweb members, since I am *NOT* a badweb sponsor.... Yet : )
