I did this surgery before years ago, but cannot find my manual. I just bought this M2, and it's leaking (suprise!) I have the complete gasket kit (50 bucks ) and plan on doing it this weekend. Anything to look out for and torque values? thanks! |

use new fiber seals under the fasteners and tighten the bolts to 10-13 ft lbs or 13.6-17.6Nm blake |

Gotcha! thanks - 17 was the number I remember. I did get the new kit with the metalic bottom gaskets that don't leak. (I fixed this before on an older 2000 M2 in 2001 and it didn't leak any more for 40+k) thanks! |

Yeah you don't tighten them nearly as much as I would have without checking with a torque wrench, I'm glad I did it, I would have cranked down on them quite a bit more than the spec calls for. They seem like just barely tight, when at spec. |

I noticed that too. It must be to keep aluminum expansion from putting too much tension on the fasteners when the engine heats up... something like that. If you don't use Loctite, they'll come loose, too. I was happy to find that out when I thought the gaskets were letting go again. |

You're in luck, save and print these on letter sized paper and you should have all you need: http://users.adelphia.net/~jackerbes/Buell/rbox1.j pg http://users.adelphia.net/~jackerbes/Buell/rbox2.j pg http://users.adelphia.net/~jackerbes/Buell/rbox3.j pg http://users.adelphia.net/~jackerbes/Buell/rbox4.j pg http://users.adelphia.net/~jackerbes/Buell/rbox5.j pg I put those there for someone else last year and they are still there. :>) Jack |
