I have Vance and Hines now, they sound OK and I guess effect wise they are OK as well.. But I am open for suggestions =)

I'd really like a more metallic and gritty sound (I used to be a Ducatista)
Ad of course I would also love some more rwhp!

The Buell Race Header and Race Muffler sound great and make good power.

I have that set up on both my 2001 S3T and the 2002 M2. I think the motor on my S3T is similar to your X1 (heads, cams, etc.)and I am really happy with it.

Also, if you have not already done so, you should consider a Race ECM or remapping with ECM SPY.

That said, I have seen V&H and D&D on stock headers and they sounded really nice.

My non-scientific comparison and comments:

Race Muffler: deep low bass sound, moderately loud

V&H slip-on: bass sound but a bit higher and softer than Race Muffler, moderately loud, but less than Race Muffler

D&D slip-on: deep low bass sound with a sharp "bite", louder than both V&H and Buell Race Muffler with a "crackle".

Race Muffler: best for performance.

V&H: best compromise between performance and friendly neighbor relations

D&D: very good performance and strong construction, to hell with the neighbors

All three can be good choices, depending on your priorities.

Good Luck,

Dave

Great post Dave! =)
I have the stock ECM.. Heard bad things about Power Commander so did not bother.

What is the Race ECM? Can you give me a link?

They dont Make the Race ECM anymore... earch for it on Ebay, or keep an eye here.

If you are good elecronically, and you have a PDA(Palm Pilot), you can reflash YOUR ECM with a Race program via ECM Spy...

Now... my recommendation for a Pipe?

D&D Full... perfect. and, if you can, have it ceramic coated inside and out before it even gets to you.

I have used the stock header with a D&D and a Race Header with a D&D....

Even with the Race header, apparently there was a small flat spot or dip still that I didnt noticed until I put the D&D system on...

its PULLED from just off idle till it smacked it the rev l/imiter...no hesitation, etc...

That said, I have used the Force pipe myself, so...

BUT, I have had that D*D on there for 2+ years... whacked in on a curb(dont ask), hell, all kinds of stuff... its tough as nails...

The particular one I hold in high regard.. is a complete system. 2 head pipes, a H-Y pipe(yes, it has a H section, then goes into the Y pipe) and then a muffler.

There ya go...http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/6171.html
