OK, I need some help. I have a 2000 M2. It's been sitting on a battery tender for the winter. Now it won't stay lit. it will start and run on full choke, but won't idle without it, even when warm. To keep it lit I need to get in the throttle deep. Any thoughts? | ||

Did you put stabilizer in the gas before storage? If not, empty the tank and run some fresh gas with Gumout or something similar. | ||

The idle circuit in the Carb is plugged. No big deal. Easy fix. Remove tank, Forcewinder, unhook choke cable ( handle end ) from bracket, pop carb out of intake manifold, ( you can leave on throttle cables, just swing it out a bit ) remove float bowl, & spray Gumout up through the idle jet. Spray all the passages you can find, clean bowl,... reassemble. You might want to drape a towel/cloth/tarp/something that won't melt w/gummout over the frame to protect the finish. Gumout is mean stuff. If I sound sure, I've had to do it, even with Sta-bil in the tank. It's the curse of Northern Riders. (Message edited by aesquire on March 25, 2008) | ||

I just had the same problem. I took the carb off and throughly cleaned ALL passages.The oxygenated fuel we must use is the worst. I could tell imediatly that this solved the problem. I now mix race gas hoping that this will help. | ||

Just got the M2 back from the dealer (Barb's HD/Buell in South Jersey). Good experience. Bike runs perfect now. It was a clogged low speed jet in the carb. Guess I have to run het more frequently... GOD it feels goods to ride the Buell again! | ||

Tip; Anytime you're going to let the bike sit for more than 3 weeks, simply drain the float bowl. Problem solved. | ||

I used to have really bad running problems with my bike, but then I started draining the tank if not using it for more then a few days. Problems gone. Just throw the drained gas into your car, it will forgive you. | ||

I've had good luck with Stable and running the carb dry after shutting fuel off. | ||

In case anyone doesn't know, the drain for the floatbowl is the little brass flat head screw you access from the left side of the bike... you can see it between the cylinders on the backside of the bowl. If you shove a larger 3/8" hose over the little hose on the bottom of the carb, you can completely drain the float bowl and the tank from there. You'll need a long thin flathead screwdriver to do it. |
