Is there a O-Ring or something on a '98 S1 where the clutch cable comes out? Mine has been leaking there for some time and is getting to be leaking more. Any one done this repair to thier bike? |

There should be an O-ring in there. Part number 11179, standard HD part. We keep a few dozen in stock at any given time Be *careful* tightening the cable back into the primary housing. The threads on the end of the cable housing *love* to just snap off for no reason. Ask me how I know, lol. Usually I have more success if I completely remove the cable from the bike, then install it to the primary first, snug it down per the manual, and route it to the handlebar / adjust last. |

I'm guessing the o-ring is not the issue. It's actually the cable that is leaking. When the outer cable housing, the plastic part, fractures, it allows the primary lube to leak out. 4-6 inches of the cable are full of primary lube at any given time, as there is no internal seal to keep oil from running into the cable, and it is below the oil level of the chaincase. The fix? A new cable, making sure to install the o-ring mentioned above. It will come with a gennie HD/Buell cable. (Message edited by jos51700 on March 15, 2008) |
