Does anyone know if it is possible to switch wheels from a newer lightning to a 2000 Cyclone Tuber. After examination. I think the rear would be easy maybe wheel plus caliper. Front would need fork, caliper and wheel. To get dual disks on the front and newer style wheel might be worth it.

"To get dual disks on the front and newer style wheel might be worth it." Worth it if you choose style over substance. You'd lose half the benefits of what the ZTL system has to offer if you added another disc and caliper. I'd love to try and adapt a ZTL wheel and front brake disc and caliper to an M2 fork, though. Definitely looking into the how's. I already have the why's. |

i saw a X1 white lightening two years ago at the streetfighter show at santa pod,it had an XB front wheel and caliper, the fork lowers must have been machined to take the spindle, there was a bracket made to mount the caliper,so its possible, |

You might need to make a special spacer for the rear wheel too, seems like Sanchez had the xb wheels on his bike... |

After examination, It seems you could put a 2003-2008 front end on from an XB and gain the single ZTL system. Does anyone know if you can put a XB wheel and rotor on the rear and use the caliper or disk?? |

Actually there are several who have done it, you might check the knowledge vault in the wheels and tires section. Seems like the stock tube rear brake works with the xb wheel, you need a custom spacer to make the drive side work. |

You'd gain a brake system that suffers less from heat fade, and is more predictable and more durable under hard use. The ZTL setup is nice for general street duty. |

That is what I am after, this will be one of my upgrades for 2009, I will start to look for parts from an XB12 now. I think this and a Baker 6 will do it for next year. |

Dymag used to make a carbon fiber wheel for us, not sure if they still do though. It's pretty much PM and nobody else. I saw some Marchesini five or seven spoke wheels on ebay once too, seems like I've seen a bike out there somewhere wearing them too, so that might not have been a "sellers got the wrong info" sort of thing... Marvic still makes magnesium wheels for tubers, and RC Components still has spun aluminum wheels available (which while pretty are known to be heavier than most OEM wheels...though their salesmen tell me otherwise). Those are the only ones I'm aware of. (Message edited by Rick_A on May 20, 2008) |

Has anyone mentioned that the XB front wheel spokes are not designed to carry braking torque from the hub to the rim!?!? The ZTL brakes are part of a system intended to interoperate. Examination or replacement of individual components without the other parts of the system is unwise. -Saro |

I don't believe anyone mentioned mounting a conventional disc to a ZTL wheel, but your point is still valid. |

We have already established that dual disks are not worth it. You can get dual brembos for $1800. The after market if you can find it Buell for $1300. I intend to convert to XB Front end keep stock headlight and tuber look and change rear wheel. |

HE did an amazing job, but put a lot more work into it than most of us can. Wheel swap with the XB front end shouldn't be a major undertaking. |

The forks and trees shipped out today, ill start taking pics as im mocking things up, i will be running a rear xb wheel too. I like the idea of the rear xb swingarm, and i might do that someday. But, something about the tuber needs the shock under the engine i think. |
