I need a usb cable for ECM SPY and my laptop. UK site will not let me register there for some reason. Maybe they dont discuss things with Americans? Id like to get ECM spy up and running. Anyone got any ideas about getting a cable? |

You can write to this guy, he made me a cable last year. If he still does make them, I highly recommend him. hillt@usq.edu.au Good luck Jim |

I got my cable from mouser.com and the deutsch connector from ebay. Got both in less than a few days. You can get the connectors from J&P Cycles too. While I don't have the exact tool for crimping I was and have been successful using a crimping tool from Lowes/HomeDepot/Sears to crimp them such that I can't pull them loose. It really is not that difficult and I have no special skills except patience. To buy a cable from someone that makes them you can also ask Maz on www.ukbeg.com - The UK Buell Enthusiasts Group. |

what Bobo said except I am soldering mine. You also need to download a driver - it's all in the ECMSPY directions. |

Well, if someone feels so inclined to MAKE another cable... I would be willing to compensate for that time... Chase |

Let's talk about that. The cable from Mouser.com plus shipping is: $24 - cable $6.79 - cable shipping $7 - Deutsch connector and pins $2.00 - shipping ------ $39.79 Total Then there would be shipping from me to you. With UPS or USPS from my door is going to be about $8 depending on your location. So, now we are at $48 and then the my labor for creating the cable, ordering the supplies, and the time and effort for shipping. Granted if I did these in lots of 10 I may get some discounts and economies of scale from shipping. Unless I didn't sell them all - then I would be at a loss. |

Well, sounds fair enough... Only thing is, is the a USB to USB universal cable? since I know my Tungsten E2 is different than a regualr Tungsten, or a Zire 72 etc... I also have a seperate cable for power... I am not affraid to spend the money... if I still have teh bike when this becomes reality... But, I have ECM spy suite... and the PDA..but, no patch cable Chase |

As I understand it, it takes a specific USB cable that adapts from FTDI USB-TTL. I think the PDA may be able to use a standard USB cable, I don't remember and would need to look at the ECM spy site again. |

Well, as long as you can make the cable with a female USB end, it should be great... Just need to find a way to power the PDA so it doesnt power off on its own But, I think that would require specific stuff... I cxan do wiring, but, that is a little intricate for me... Chase |

EcmSpy/PDA will NOT work with any USB-to-serial convertor, but requires a physical serial connection. Regards, Gunter |
