congrats jodie, when you have time can you answer me a couple of questions - did the xb yokes and stem need any mods to fit your headstock are the xb forks shorter than the m2/x1 forks, would it be possible to fit xb forks into x1 yokes or are the top and bottom clamps to close together on the x1 yokes ??? thanks steve. |

Steve the yokes needed no mods but the stem did. From memory I mounted the stem in my lathe and removed 10mm from the centre of the stem. I then turned a plug up to put in the joint, I then drilled holes in the stem so I could plug weld for extra strenght. Please not that the whole time everything was mounted in the lathe for trueness. I then ran a weld all the way around the joint. Once it was all done I smoothed up the joint with my belt grinder. It is perfectly straight and strong. I have seen someone else that has fitted the XB front to a tuber and they just extended the thread on the top of the stem...This is not a good move as the stem is only just supported in the top bearing! The XB forks are shorter, I'm not at home at the moment so I can't measure the difference for you, But theres about an inch difference. I see this as a benefit because of the longer wheelbase it sharpens the steering up. Incase you never read it I have road tested the bike and all was very impressive Also the XB triples are around 5mm closer to the frame which reduces the steering lock, only a problem for parking or u turns(I use to own a ducati so I can live with that!) XB forks won't fit because of the reason you have stated, If you look at the lower triples you can see why it won't work. Steve I guess thats as clear as mud! Cheers Jodie |

thanks for the info, didnt know about the stem, suspected the rest, how close does the front wheel/fender get to the engine/frame on full compression of the front forks ? this is now a mod i am considering thanks to you,am also thinking of the xb swingarm, |

I don't know how close it is to contacting but I do know that it doesn't contact at all! I have seen XB front ends on at least 3 tube frame Buells on this forum with no dramas from anyone. Good luck with the XB swingarm mod, Depending on your ability it is not to difficult at all. If you look back through this thread you will see the measurements and a diagram of the adapters you will need to make to fit the swing arm. Cheers Jodie |

I got your email Blake and have replied to you. The stock switch gear and throttle are made by Domino in Italy also. Only my right fork slider was bad, Just before taking it to get powder coated I noticed some dents in the slider.(Unrepairable!) Neil I've just got to get the rear spring(white) and the new slider lower powder coated(black) Oil lines, Single seat modification plate(for discounted rego in Queensland) and rego... Then I'm off for a ride!!! |

what is rego, and what is the single seat plate mod? |

Registration is your compulsory 3rd party insurance and Queensland government traffic fees(TAX). Because my S3 was originally registered as a dual seat(carry pillion) and I've now modified it for solo(no pillion) I have to get a modification plate fitted for the department of transport. A lot of rooting around but will save me heaps of cash a year. Plus S1's aren't really good for two up riding were the S3 was. I hope that made sense! Jodie |
