2001 Buell Cyclone – differences between M2 and M2L These dimensions are from the 2001 owner’s manual: Seat Height M2: 29.5”, 74.93cm M2L: 27.5”, 69.85cm Ground Clearance M2: 5.2”, 13.21cm M2L: 4.2”, 10.67cm The part numbers are from the 2000-2001 parts catalog (itself part number 99572-01Y) Complete fork legs: Front fork assembly, left 46032-99Y J0121.01A4 low Front fork assembly, right 46033-99Y J0122.01A4 low Fork Parts: Spring 46037-99Y J0113.01A4 low Damper Assembly 46038-99Y J0109.01A4 low Guide Bushing 46083-97YA J0112.01A4 low Slider Tube 46147-99Y J0107.01A4 low Shock Absorber: This is where it gets interesting. The shocks are the same, so one might assume that shock "assembly" refers to the shock and bracket. However, only one bracket is listed separately, indicated as an M2 part. So, is the conclusion that the M2L uses the same shock, but the bracket was not available separately? Can anyone post a picture of an M2L shock mount so I can try to see which one my bike has? Thanks. | ||

Thanks. That's pretty much what mine looks like. How does it differ from the regular bracket? Can anyone tell me what the measurement is from the triple clamp to the top of the fork leg with the forks fully extended, on an M2L? That would tell me if I have the M2L forks, I think. | ||

Unladen - but not fully extended - it's exactly 4" from the bottom of the triple to the top of the lower fork leg. When the rain stops I'll put it up and get the better measurement. | ||

Thanks! If I recall correctly, mine is 5 inches with the bike hanging from the rafters. It was about 50F here or maybe better so I rode the thing today. It wuz great! | ||

I got my 2002 M2 parts book. The shock asm numbers, and the mounting bracket are the same as the 01. The index numbers on the page, though, don't seem to indicate that the bracket is part of the shock assembly. But as in Zen's 01 book there is no other mount shown. In other posts there are references to different brackets and re drilling a standard bracket to make it a low. If the difference is in the shock itself, it must be in the piston length inside the housing. When I put the two together, the low didn't have any weight on it. I think I would like to hold both in my hands off the bike. Standard mounted, Low on the jack, and the standard bracket   | ||

Is it me? I can see the shock on the jack is CLEARLY longer than the shock on the bike. Laden or undladen, it doesn't matter... all pull shocks get longer with a load on the them, not shorter. If anything, the difference would even be greater comparing the shocks off the bike. Why am I the only one who sees the shock being held up is longer than the shock on the bike? | ||

I keep looking at my parts book. No difference in brackets, but different shocks & the shop manual calls for different shock lengths. There IS a lowering bracket, but it's not a stock part. I'm just an idiot M2L owner, any help from the experts?? | ||

Okay, I pulled the standard shock and the low is longer (DJ, I didn't understand about the pull part!!) by less than a half inch. I can't tell any difference in the bracket, but I didn't pull the standard off, just held the low up beside it. It would help if the shocks had some numbers on them!!    |
