I am looking at getting my pipes ceramic coated. Any suggestions where to send or take them? I do like to tour. Will the coating clean when exposed to road tars grime and oil? Thanks Bneck | ||

Unfortunately I don't know where to send them...but I do know that if you let the pipes cool first, just about anything will come off. A friend had his S3 header jet-hot coated bright silver a couple years ago and was an all-weather rider like me, and they stayed a nice clean finish the whole time he had the bike. | ||

Check around, anyone that powder coats should be able to coat them for you. Click my profile, I had mine coated black to match the rest of the motor and they turned out extremely well. Guy said they were good to 2000 degrees. Just hope I'm not on there when it gets that hot.  I'm in the process right now to wrap them with header wrap, also black of course. And yes they will clean nicely. | ||

Had mine done by HPC (High Performance Coatings) this year, have not bolted them on yet though, the silver finish should look nice with my polished aluminum parts, and I'm looking forward to less heat on the leg in the summer. | ||

I had the Blue on my X1W header redone by JetHot last year. They were affordable and fast turn around. The original factory coating was kind of thin and I do not know if the inside of the pipes was done, but when Jet Hot redid them, they put a thick coat inside and out. I immediately noticed cooler riding temp on my right leg. Better fuel MPG and a little less hesitation in hard acceleration. Jet Hot guys were great on the phone and answered all my questions about what the coating actually does for performance. | ||

Just make sure you keep your paper work... I have Jet Hot Sterling Silver coating... and, on the H-Y pipe on my D&D, the coating has flakes off... with alot of rust evident underneath(poor prep).. Other wise, I am reasonably content... cleans easier, and looks better... Chase | ||

This is where we send all our street rod stuff at work. www.thermaltechcoatings.com They guy that owns the place has an S1 so he is familiar with Buells, and a super nice guy. Back before I bought my Force pipe I was checking on having my stock pipe coated and he said it would be around $100.00. Their coating is MUCH shinier that Jet Hot or HPC. It is not uncommon for us to have 5-10K worth of labor invested in an exhaust system and these guys always take care of it. They also do internal engine coatings. | ||

Dealt with Jet-hot. i didnt like it the first time because it chipped. Sent it back and they did it again and paid for shipping. I would recommend them. | ||

Jet Hott for sure. I got mine coated and it was rusted badly before. It now looks perfect and they coat the interior as well. My KT pipe is close to my leg but now is cooler without the heat shield than with it installed before coating. Great service and only about $100 shipped. The sterling silver coating can be polished with aluminum polish. I was so impressed I had my frame done. Highly recommend. | ||

Bob, you may want to check with Hot-Rod or auto/truck performance shops in your area. They will more then likely had a handle on local shops that do ceramic coatings. Most shops will have recently completed projects on hand for you to inspect and judge the quality of the work they're capable of doing. I found a local shop that coated 2 sets of headers for me for about half the cost quoted above, OTD and no shipping hassle. As far as I can tell nothing special about Jet Hott or any other shop. Prep the piece, apply coating, bake at 450 degrees, polish. Probably the most important step is the preparation, just as in any refinishing process. | ||

Ceramic coating is very similar to Powder... with SOME differences.. The guns are a little different, specifically the nozzle size and type. The bake/cure temp is higher. BLACK... As I understand it Powder will not stand up to the temp extrems of a header... At least typical factory type powder coating.... I am looking at going with Jet hot for mine this winter yet.. If you do someone else let me know how it goes.. I actually want a flat black.. is that available at thermal tech coatings??? | ||

Yes, They can do black. Here are pics of a car we built a few years ago. We made some crazy headers that poked out through the hood side then went back in. Thermal Tech did the entire exhaust in black.    (Message edited by rellim51 on January 18, 2008) | ||

That's a Prowler? Wow I like the spindly looking front wheels, but it doesn't look right in the back. In the back should look more like strength, not spindly. I know it's only perception, but just doesn't look right, to me. The pipes are way cool though. | ||

Before my time ! I looked at Prowler pics again, boy the profile is exact, but you're right of course, it's not. Doesn't change my impression, don't care for the rear wheels, love the rest of it. | ||

Prowlers were V6 engines. And I say this as a Mopar freak - Prowlers aren't nearly as cool, either. Awesome looking car, I love the anti-chrome look. | ||

A couple more.   For anyone that is looking to have any kind of coating done, I HIGHLY recommend Thermal Tech Coatings. They just coated a complete exhaust in flat Titanium and it looks great. | ||

That car is absolutely gorgeous! Love the colors, the lines are just dead sexy, wonderfully clean package. I thought I agreed with Jayvee until I saw the pics at an angle, the back end looks sweet. |
