Joesbuell, I love this long thread. You are really giving a lot of yourself to us, the Buellnuts, by sharing the entire build. Thanks for sharing it with us. Keep up the good work!!!!!!! |

When you're done with this thing, no one will notice how much work you put into it (I mean that as a compliment of course!) This is pretty much my favorite thread of all time. I wish I could see it in person. |

Thanks guys I know what you mean Nate, When I show people what I've done they can't believe the transformation from stock S3 to this. Nate is that a Buell tree in your back yard? Mick I hope I can make it to Bright next year(Mick's the supplier of the S1 solo tail) And fellow Aussie Bueller Thanks Neil if your ever down under very welcome here too mate. Mick may not agree with me but Queensland is the best place to be in Oz I don't know how many of you guys know of the Confederate Wraith but I really like the girder front end, Here's my little take on the idea. I plan make this once the Buell is done. Styling may change a little as this is only may first attempt. Cheers and enjoy Jodie

It's only a matter of cash flow! you know how it is All I need is that lotto win! ha ha Once my Buells on the road I'm going to make a prototype girder front fork for it. I will make it a bolt on job. The girder will be made from chrome molly tubing. I'd love to do what Jesse James does for a living...Only with more of a street fighter flare! |

"Id love to do what"....... You already are brother! Girder fork thats a bolt on affair, would be great to be able to switch it out at any given time. Also allow you to study performance and safety issues and improve as you go. Cash will buy you everything.....except poverty. I have already started to tear down the X1 for a powdercoat. The original people who did Buells for BMC are gonna redo it in the orange. Carbon fiber body and orange frame with polished bits here and there. Yumm. Im working alot of overtime too so I can finance a few things also. Gonna be a great Christmas! |

Yes, classic did the early Buells. Very helpful in what I need to do and how to ship. Really cool folks that seem to have a passion much like my own for bikes. Already quoted a price and have checked in on me and my progress. I highly recommend them and its not even done yet! |

While I wait on the cash tree...Here's some things I've done I filed all the casting marks off the fork lowers including the BUELL logo, I may put some SHOWA stickers on there instead. I'll be bead blasting them then powder coating them black. Next I made a heat shield for the rear header pipe as it still gets F#$king hot! I used a section out of the old headers that matched the profile of the new headers, I made and welded some tags on the back so I could use hose clamps to attach it just like the factory one. I then painted it with wrinkle finish black. Tank, tail and frame awaiting paint and powder coat. Not long now! Has anyone ever had to re stamp there VIN number? Since removing the original powder coat the VIN is not perfectly stamped. An old Katana frame I had coated years ago had the same problem and when the powder was applied you could hardly see the VIN...The end result was to get a file to it so the registry department could ID the frame = Ugly mess! Cheers Jodie |

looking great joe,is there anything that you could fill in the stamps while it gets powder coated and when it's done take it out. the powder won't stick to paint will it. |

Neil it looks like Buell stamped the VIN through the powder coat so the actual stamps in the frame are not very deep. I have been thinking of using an engraving tool to deepen them. |

Be careful, if it looks like the stamping has been messed with at all, you may have a problem with the inspector! rt |

Stamped metal alters that density of the metal underneath. Just leave the numbers as they are. If you mess with them they will think you are hiding something. They can etch the surface with acid and read the numbers with a polarized lens. Criminals think they are outsmarting "the man" by filing off the serials on their guns but my aunt works in a crimelab and she just laughs and goes about her business. |

When we powdercoated a frame for a customer, we masked the VIN section so it wouldn't get color-coated. After the color coat, they removed the mask and hit the entire thing with clear powder. You can see the VIN clear as day through it, no problems. If you look at a factory XB, they're done the same way... AWESOME looking project!!! |

The sequence of photos showing the different permutations the bike went through is great. I like the last one best... but I bet the next last one is gonna be a doozy. |
