Djkaplan, Is that a S1 tail section that you crafted onto your M2? If so what did you all have to do make it work?

Thanks,

Dj, like the indicators , they look nice and smooth.

That's not bad, I think the cleaning up is what makes it palatable. If one simply removes the plastic, it looks like you were in a wreck and just too cheap to fix it. Taking care of the details makes it look 'custom'.

"Is that a S1 tail section that you crafted onto your M2?"

If you're talking about the black plastic license plate holder thats snuggled against the rear of the seat on the silver M2... no, that's a much modified stock M2 part. That is an S1 tailsection Mick grafted onto his black M2, though. Looks great, doesn't it?

"...like the indicators"

Don't bother using them, they're horrible. The light they emit is pretty feeble and they can't take the vibration at all. I filled the insides with silicon seal to keep the wires from shaking off all the time. They cost more, aren't as durable, and they don't shine as brightly as the stock signals. Lesson learned.

"...I think the cleaning up is what makes it palatable."

I'll eventually relocate the ignition under the seat frame rails like Bomber did (where is that guy, anyway?) to really clean it up. I think the voltage regulator might look cool in the spot the ignition is in now. It might look better with an S3 seat too.

The bike is just more fun to ride now without the tail section hindering my boots. A side benefit is much less visible shaking and noise, especially at idle.

I'm keeping it this way for a while... I can always put the old tailsection back on, but this is really starting to grow on me... my booming mongrel.

I did this to my old M2 from a brand new bike. Bought a 2000 model in late 99 and cut it right away.

that s1 seat seems to match up a lot better than the 97 cyclone seat to the larger manta tank. Sadly, like dj, im going to the naked look with trimmed plastic, i cant take the 97 seat anymore.

Sadly, like dj, im going to the naked look...

I wasn't sure I was going to like the 'naked tail' look and I always intended to put the bodywork back on eventually, but the bike is sooooo much more comfortable without my boots backing into the tailsection, I doubt I'll ever put it back on. Plus, I love the streetfighter look with more of the frame tubes and engine visible and the heat from the rear header isn't bad at all if I keep it polished - I would have never thought that keeping the pipe polished would influence the amount of heat it radiates to your leg, but it's lessens it quite noticeably.

If anyone needs a brand new tailsection or used seat for a 97-98 M2, let me know.

well, the seat and 2 tail sections came in today, i trimmed the worse of the two, and have it on, i need to play with it a little since it doesnt line up perfectly with the back of the seat.

Cant believe how much more comfortable this wide seat is.
