Excuse me while I rant! I was on the phone back and forth between the two local dealers, (near Daytona) for about 2 hours yesterday. I called the closest one first and asked for the part by number from my parts catalog. The guy on the phone looks in the computer and tells me that is an invalid part number, so he will have too look in his book, very huffy askes me to hold. Comes back and has the same part number and says, "This is very odd?.?. I don't know what to tell you bud." No offer to find someone who knows what they are looking at or anything... So I hang up and call the other dealer...same kind of response. I hang up again and do some internet research and find there was a recall, and luckily the guy I bought the bike from kept all receipts!!! So after looking through them I find he did have the recall done and I call back to the first dealer, and get a different guy, as I tell him the part number for the recall kit he says, "Service handles the recalls let me transfer you." and I am on hold again!!!! So I hang up and call the other dealer, again, and get adifferent guy again, (#4 for those keeping count) So I tell him I need to find a part and it is from a recall and what it is for, and I am on hold again without being able to finish my sentence. He comes back and is talking about the part number that is invalid and he has to call Harley on Monday... So I interupt and tell him I have a part number...and he gets an attitude and says, "well you shoulda told me, that makes all the difference in the world." to which I respond, I was trying to tell you but the last guy I told transferred me directly to service!!!! So he does some research and comes up with apart number, but doesnt have it in stock, so I write it down and ask him to check if anyone else shows it in stock locally, he says no one in the state has it. I call the other dealer. I get the guy I had already talked to and tell him not to transfer me or put me on hold till I am done. I give him the whole story except the part number from the other store and ask him for the part number for the new sidestand switch... he finally comes back with three different part numbers all in stock but he can not figure which one fits my bike!!!!! So does Anyone know the part number for the safety switch out of the recall kit(part#93921y)which is for a 1999 X1 Lightning or even beter how I can manufacture my own? P.S. sorry about the book ^ |

Cut the wires going to the switch, solder them together, cover the wires with heatshrink and you're done. Safety idiocy sucks. Mine lasted 40K. I left my dead switch on my bike for thousands of miles before I made it official and removed it all together. |

Thats what I did, but I would rather have the switch, and a dealer that had a clue...this is the third part I have bought in six months and each time it is a nightmare, "Buell...is that the new chopper we started sellin'?" duhhur... I can't imagine how hard it is going to be now that the engines are coming from Austria!!! |

Parts are never a problem. Just find one of the dealerships on the sponsor's board. Deal only with them and you will always be happy, happy, happy... like me. |
