after splitting the cases, changing the stator, cylinders, pistons rings, cams, new tire, oil cooler and god knows what else, she's done. now i just have to see how long i can hang on to it with out anything else happening to it. i dread the very thought of anything happening to this bike so in a way i'm glad i was on the lighting when i wrecked it an not the m2. |

Neil - glad the M2 is home. Carlos has to start on his now. There's something 'bout them old tubers that get in you that you just can't shake. Looking forward to seeing you at MBV. |

Cool stuff Neil.Did you increase displacement? 3 months isn't too bad,i've had a bike down since March and "may" start coming together next week.I can only hope. But that's a really cool Cyclone in Fall colors. |

wife, definitely something about them that you just can't let go of. it was great getting back on it again. never spent alot of time on the lighting and that didn't help last month but i do plan on taking it easy so i don't mess this one up. duc, it already had a good bit of work done to it but when the oil pump went, alot of that stuff that had been done had to be redone. i could have saved a good bit of money by putting it back stock but it sure was nice to have that power while i'm riding two up. not that i'm gonna ride it that hard again like i did back in march. good luck putting your's back together. at least you'll probably be doing your own work, won't you. i don't have that kind of patience. |

Neil... I hate to ask this, but could you describe how you came to the realization that your oil pump gear broke? What were the symptoms? Did you hear any noise? Did the oil pressure light come on? Every time I ride my bike now, I worry about this. It's still a few months before I tear it down for the gear change... |

Djkaplan: There are no symptoms !!! Two things contribute to the DRIVEDEAR,oil pump PN 26318-88A failing, not warming engine up properly before running it hard and 7K RPMs ... Checked oil pump drive gear at 60K and it looked brand new and "i" could not get a bronze gear then which was in 2003 ... Harley-Davidson did not come out with their gear until 2006 ... As soon as "i" can one goes in my engine ... In BUELLing LaFayette (Message edited by buellistic on November 05, 2007) |

dj, it seems like something broke loose in side the cases that "could" have caused it. not 100% certain. the only thing i know is when they put it back together the first time, the gear got chewed up again after only maybe 5 miles. they have put close to 100 miles on it before turning it over to me so far. i took it out for maybe 75. so far so good. as far as what buellistic said, i always warmed it up before taking off so that wasn't the case. like the old saying goes, if it isn't broke, don't fix it. i have to wonder if those gears are really worth it. |
