Just picked up a manta tank to replace the dinged up manta tank that i currently have on my S1, i went to install the fuel filler ring onto the new tank and found that it is slightly larger than the hole on the new tank, both tanks are silver, the old one is a 98 s3, and the new one is a newer unknown tank (i'm gussing 99 or newer s3 tank, it has raised decals), does anyone know what model this new tank is off of? and where to get one of the filler rings/gas cap for it? |

If it has two holes on the bottom its an S3 1999 or newer. Just one hole for the petcock must be an M2. |

definitely just one hole for the petcock, but i thought 99 s3 was still carbed, am i wrong? i'm pretty sure the m2 never came in silver (i know it came in volcano grey but this tank is '97 silver), once again, am i wrong? someone "signed" the bottom of the tank with a ballpoint pen "SJB 400 11/12/01" it has corresponding dates close to that of the pen "signing" both in paint marker, one is "BK 320 11/9" which is under the over spray of the paint and the other is "PNA 11/13" are these just paint shop markings? if the date indicates when the tank was painted than the only manta tank that was for a carb model of 2001 would be an m2 right? I am pretty sure that the S3's and X1's are all FI, regardless of year. |

The carburetted S3 is relatively rare... I remember only seeing one in person.

X1 tanks are ugly black plastic and have a decorative cover on top which is painted. Mine is a 2000 and has the raised white letters too. I'm just saying that if your tank is one piece, it's not from an X1. |

The carburetted S3 is relatively rare... I remember only seeing one in person. Probably not so rare but I've personally owned 2. I still have both (sort of). I bought my first one new in 1999. It's still my "daily driver". The second is mostly still around. The motor is in my S1W. The other parts are hanging around the garage (literally) was spare parts. |
