Heres a shot of the S3t lowered 1/2" all around...Works good...Used a 16.5 front mount, cut it up and made it 1/2" longer than the late mount front bolt hole, plus a nice solid platform for jacking front end up...Hb

Thx Bartimus....Stemmed from ur advise. I cant believe in the photo how much it has changed the bike by machining the rim edges and changing the seat to the older version! Hankb.. |

"...plus a nice solid platform for jacking front end up..." Great feature. All mounts should have had some kind of provision for this from the factory. |

Bad K... No, just the above photo...I was gonna take one tho.....LOL.. Anyhow, I chopped a stock early showa mount off and welded the straight bottom mounts outa 1/4" plate...Then formed another piece of 1/4 to box it in and give good strenght..Wrinkle black spray and ViolA. Fit perfect and as said a nice base to lift on as well...Hb.. |

The short shock mount moves the only jack point up front further back compared to the long shock mount. This makes the bike really unstable on a peg stand and bottle jack. Not only did you lower your bike, but you actually improved the weight distribution when the bike is up off the ground for maintenance. Damn good idea. The only way it's safe to use a peg stand and bottle jack with the short shock mount is to take the tank off (or make sure it's empty) or the bike will fall off the stand with the slightest push. I'm not talking about the stand rocking forward... I'm talking about the bike levering itself off the stand and falling to the left. Don't ask me how I know... |

Hanks looks very sturdy, and the jacking point is a bonus. here's some pics of the mod I made for an S2 and later for an X1. I used the late model bracket for the shorter shock. This lowered the bike 1" in the rear.

Bart...Yes, you showed me this photo and I kinda based my mod after it... I could only lower the front end 1/2" by slippin the tubes up the trees till they contacted the handle bars,,,Backed off about .025 for clearance and ended up with the .5 drop there...So, i figured Id do the rear the same...By using the old stlye straighter mount it gave me lotsa room to add on too, as well as box it in...Plus, got rid of the extra hole from before... When jacking on it, I have a bike table that I strap the bike too...Leave straps loose and lift...The bike stays stable, and cant fall either way...I put a piece of wood inbetween as well....Works good... In the end, my wife can now touch flat with left foot and 1/2 foot on the right...Perfect! I ended up with a few extra shocks and mounts etc, which i intend on listing here first before ebay... 1-16.5 showa with mount..As new 1-14.75 showa with mount...As new 1- 14.75 showa...No mount..No resevoir. As new 2- early exhaust hangers 1- 2000 S3T seat 1- used S3 bra 1- stock header..New take off 1- stock muffler...new take off 1 dash 1- air cleaner backing plate 1- K+N filter..new 4- stock footpegs...as new 1- kick stand and clutch switch I will have more to list as well... Some S2 pieces too....LOL.... Clean out time....Hankb.... |

Bartimus; I am looking a the same modification. My wife is tip toeing an S3. I have a spare S3 front shock mount. I was comparing it with the mount on my '02 M2L. It appears that the M2L front mount would give the same affect without the fabrication. Any ideas? |
