I'm considering buying a (very) wrecked 2001 gray and orange S3 for a winter project. It has PM wheels, 27k miles, jag oil cooler, power commander, and supposedly was wrecked in California. I'm curious if the previous owner might be a BWB member and could give me some history and insight into the bike's previous and current condition? If it was your bike or belonged to somebody you know, I'd sure appreciate it if you would contact me. My email: 3buells@mchsi.com Thanks, John (Message edited by 80rs427 on October 21, 2007) |

Where is the bike now? I had a friend here in CA with one like you described but he sold it after moving to Arizona and that was a few years ago. He had a lot of trouble with the power commander but otherwise it was a good bike. BC Steve |

The bike is now in Iowa. I was told a CA insurance company junked it, so no more chance of licensing it. Other distinguishing features include lights mounted to the fork legs, harley-style handlebar risers, and some sort of bags (only the mounts remain). |

After I posted my earlier response I realized that the one my friend had did not have PM wheels. Probably not the same bike as he sold it in Arizona but that was several years ago. Don't they have a way to issue a salvage title there? Of course it may not be worth the effort but it seems that the S3Ts are bringing a little more these days as they are becoming somewhat rare with many being chopped up and sold off for parts. Keep chopping and I'll hold onto mine! BC Steve |

Tim, I did meet you a couple months ago. I stopped by on my old goldwing and had a nice chat with you about Buells. Another Badweb member emailed me with info on the S3. He knew more about the bike than I could have imagined (he even knew the VIN). I'm also looking at a XB12R that needs some work; if I get it, do you have any extra parts you might let go from your recent rebuild project? |

Just got the bike home today: a '04 red & gold 12R. I need a gold front wheel, upper & lower triple clamps, fairing stay, rh rider foot peg, probably an ignition switch, low beam headlight lens (or?), headlight eyebrows, and a straight rear subframe. Let me know if you have leads on anything. |

dang, well i sold a gold front wheel i had a while ago. i bet all the fairing supports i have laying around arent any better than the one that is on there. i might have a lower triple clamp, but one of the steering stops is a little squished, not much but the fork will just BARELY tap the frame. actually though my frame was a little squished where the stop hits also, so on a good frame it may not contact at all. is your subframe unrepairable? |

Tim, My fairing support is good except at the frame mount, where it broke the tabs at the 4 mounting holes. I think my subframe is repairable, but I'm not sure if I can do it. I pulled the plastic off, and the subframe looks fine. It is gently pushed about 2" to the left. I tried tying the bike down and pulling the subframe, but it was stronger than I expected. Do you have any ideas on straightening one? I might be interested in your lower triple. I see my frame stop is a bit smooshed too, but it may be worth a try, even if it only gets me rolling until I find a better one. I appreciate the help and advice. |

exactly how it is bent will depend on how much it will move, and how easy. the one on my 9 got tweaked some when i wrecked it but i dont think it was as far as you say yours is. i was able to straighten mine out though. depending on how its bent, maybe heating somethings up would help it straighten easier. |
