Can anyone educate me in the ways of tires?? I noticed that the rear tires on some sport bikes are much larger than others. My 2002 M2 has a 170 on the rear, my buddies Ducatti Monster has a 180 and a Vrod(night rod....heh) I seen here has a freakin steam roller back there. Anyhow, what are the advantages/diadvantages of larger rear meats?? I like the look but wonder if its a good thing... Also, what is the largest rear tire that will fit on a M2?? Thx |

I think you can get a 190 on the M2, 180 for sure.Going big on the rear w/ compromise your turning/handling characteristics. If you have stock rims ( 5 in. ) I would stay with the 170. If you have the PM's ( 5.5 in. ) I suggest the 180. |

I run a 180 on My Cyclone and couldn't be happier with it. |

I run a 170 on my S1W, 180 on my S2. I've found that up to about 200 you're OK in general...once you get over 200 you really start to compromise handling. I've ridden a 240 rear V-rod and you have to practically throw the inside handgrip onto the ground to get it to lean into turns. I have no idea how people ride those "choppers" with 300 and up rear tires. Of course, I guess handling really doesn't come into play when all you do is ride on and off a trailer, LOL. For the changes on a tuber (170/180) it really only affects your turn-in characteristics. Setting up the suspension properly can overcome that much of a change in tire size. The main reason I put the 180 on my S2 is because of the saddlebags - I carry stuff with me all the time on that bike and a little more meat back there to carry the weight makes me feel better. Handling between the 2 bikes is as identical as can be considering the minor differences in geometry..if anything it feels like the S2 turns in quicker than the S1. |

I run 190s all the time now, I was switching back and forth, between the 180, and the 190, but, decided to stick it 190... Especially down here, where, the only turns are at intersections with lights, and cameras... BUT, I am still completely able to get WAY over, and off teh side on and exit ramp, etc, as mentioned, it seems the current tire turns in QUICKER then the 180... Chase |

170 to 180 isn't much of a difference... For the average rider it probably won't even be noticed .. |

180 and 190s are just about the same width. The difference is in the profile. 190s are flatter, which gives them the illusion of being wider. |
