Hey guys today i finished my s1 tail conversion on my m2 it turned out real nice. I just want to say thanks to everyone who helped me and put up a pic for everyone to see. Another successful project thanks to these boards. Also its going to be getting a paint job and seat redone. It must have red incorperated into it (my gear is all red). I was thinking either all black or black marble paint with a red leather seat. If anyone has suggustions please feel free to leave them.

Its kind of hard to explain what all i did but let me see if i can try. I took the lower bars and cut a v into each one and welded it making a 45 angle or so. I then went to the bottom part of the lower bars and notched them. now that i had the lower bars disconected from the top two bars I cut and notched them at the point where they needed to be raised. I raised them to the correct height and welded up each of those notches. Then i brought the lower bars up to the top bars and welded them together. After that i welded the notches on the bottom bars. Then i sat the tail on and it all fit correctly the next step was to make it all mount up correctly. So I cut a piece of metal to the width of the two top bars and made it about 2 inchs long.and bolted it to the tail section. Then i took two 2x2 inch peices of metal and held them at the correct angle and held them with a vise grip. Then I tacked them into place. After that I removed the tail and welded everything up real nice and sturdy. Then i took a grinder and cleaned up everything and countiued to sand it all till it was smooth. The final step was to paint it all a fresh coat of black. Im sure i may have missed a few small steps but that is basically what all was done. If you guys think it would be helpful to others on the boards i could probobly make a really nice write up with pics so that anyone could figure out how to do it. Buellgekk - I actually just took off the heat protector last night and detailed my bike. Im kind of worried that my legs might get to hot though since i do live in arizona and all. |

I tried running without the heat shield in the winter and found the heat unbearable (or at least uncomfortable enough to make me put the heat shield back on). It looked a lot better to me after that. Your M2/S1 (M1?) is stunning, btw. |

looks like you did a good job lets see more pics i am on the edge of doing it to mine but i am also leaning towards doing a custom one-off fiberglass single seat tail section, i like the short-ness of the S1 tail but what to go even shorter, i put more thought into it i got all winter coming up. |

Duece, I'd be curious to see a good solution to an even shorter S1 tail. Please post pictures if you decide to undertake that project. |

I know this is NOT a project for novices, but it would be great if someone could put together a step-by-step how-to including pics. Im REALLY liking the S1 rear and would love to modify my M2. I have friends that are fabrication / mechanically inclined that have said they would love to do something like this for me. |
