OK, just put a new tank on my S1W (actually new, not just new to me). No more peeling paint, but it seems the check valve / vent breather isn't working. I can start the bike, let it warm up a bit, and it'll just shut off. Pop the fuel cap, pphhhsssswwwhhhh, it sucks air, bike starts right up and runs fine for about 50 miles. FWIW, I could hear the ball rattling around as I turned the tank over and over before installation. I can't blow into the tank thru the vent tube. I can blow out thru the vent hose after I pull it off the tank so I know the hose is clear. I have yet to hook the tank to a vacuum pump to see if it sucks gas out the vent, but you'd think I would be able to blow into the tank, equivalent to air coming in as fuel level drops? If this isn't working right, can I just pull the aluminum filler ring off, and have the check valve in my hand to examine/fix? <sigh> Eventually this bike will cooperate. It's still pissed at me for spending so much time with the S2, LOL. |

On mine, the check valve can be removes from the ring. Open the tank, reach in and grab the valve, Unscrew it while holding the breather tube. |
