My '02 had 'Ham' stamped on the bearings. I guess they ran out of turkey.

The instigator himself chimes in. I knew you wouldn't miss an opportunity. It's like a little clique of " know-it-alls". They must be used to everyone accepting the BS they spew out. When they get called up on a post, they sure get defensive and in many cases-offensive. Don't challenge people if you have no f'ing idea what your talking about. Don't you get tired of looking like idiots? I think there are just enough of you to start a band. As annoying as you tools are, you are good for a laugh.

I rest mine. Go change your pad and bother someone else. If you don't like the article I posted - cry to the web-site. You are an annoying little pr#*k. I imagine you give most people you meet an attitude, you have that quality. May I suggest meeting w/ a therapist to improve your social skills? It couldn't hurt, you have nowhere to go but up.

Children, may I suggest you both go buy a copy of "The No A**shole Rule" by Robert Sutton.
While it can be entertaining watching you piss on each others leg, it is quite boring.

Problem solved! Buy a set a ceramic bearings. They cost a bundle but are supposed to last 3 times longer than stock and reduce rolling friction for an increase in (ducking out of the line of fire) rear wheel horsepower. You can't lose

HOLY COW has this gotten out of hand...

Warlizard - your 1st post was just dandy and very well spoken (no harsh words thrown out and just information)

Court just wanted to know where your information came from (he likes to make sure of accuarate statements are made-I know he ment no dis-respect)

Your 2nd post started to go bad.. when you informed court of "Just because yours didn't fail doesn't mean sh#t." You don't need to be harsh to anyone here, no one said anything against you... well until harsh statements were made, then the poo started to fling... The wheel bearing post is answered, and your facts were good from other sources. SO RELAX!!!

OK enough of me being the referee... Court is a GREAT guy here, and he deserves a little more respect. It takes a ton to get me involved in this stuff. Ok back to your corners.

My 2Cents, if you are worried about your bearings, change them out.. not too terribly expensive, and easy to do... If you have the right tools... ok I am done

oh yeah and my 2002 X1 had 37,000 miles and no problems... but wasn't PM wheels...

I think American Sports Bike used to have them. I also saw in road race magazine someone had complete ceramic bearings including tranny bearings. Very pricey. My bike is undergoing a Joesbuell style conversion with the XB rear swingarm, rims, front forks, and chain drive. Almost got the bike together and noticed my rear shock mount has a little too much flex in it. I'll bum my daughter's camera and take some shots of the poor thing.

Black - I respectfully disagree. Hogwash is another word for BS, which is another word for a lie. Why not just ask me where I heard it? He basically implied that I just made it up. I must admit it is a little concerning that someone w/ their own link on this site wasn't aware of the bearing issue. Even after I posted the article, I was still being challenged. I am pretty easy going until my buttons are pushed.

WL,you need to take a deep breath and calm down. I see you are a bit new around here so you need to know the folks you are dealing with. Court was here when it was an e-mail list and was a Buell employee at one time, has a bazillion miles on Buells and libraries of info on the bikes.
You are quoting a piece written by another old school Badwebber, Don Casto, he garnered his info here and by talking to lots of owners--I was one of them--so don't take his piece as the Holy Bible of Buell information because there are alot of other sources.
Calm, rational discourse gets so much more information and causes no loss of respect.
BTW, most of the bearing failures were rear wheel and directly related to improper belt tension and/or use of a powerwasher.

I have those ceramic wheel bearings in the racebike--big money!

And some of the rest of you guys need a little restraint as well,be nice---

Woodcraft, Yoyodyne, NRHS, and a couple others carry ceramic bearings. Some even carry engine kits. Racers that use 'em swear by 'em.

I remember a problem with the belt tension of the early tubers that cost me a PM wheel. I wonder how much this has added to the early failure of bearings.
Joe

Joe! An excellent point made, I hope people here are going with the 2 inch or 2 1/4 slop spec on the belt, but ah that was another story.

My belt was run tight for about 4000 miles until a bump in the road snapped it. I am on the new XB belt from American Sport Bike It was a nice day and I was on my way to pick up a girlfriend.....She made it all good though.

Can anyone give a number on the price of ceramics? By pricey do you mean pricey for bearings or just way too pricey in general?

Crap, what was the question again? All this bickering just has me all tore up!

Wow, that vxb place is half the price of every other place. These are not much more than the American Sport Bike price of regular bearings.

"Full ceramic" means the races are also ceramic? Not explained clearly, but that's what it looks like. And Hybrid Ceramic means ceramic balls, steel races, I deduce.

Either one is equally suitable for wheels?

Check the entire listing for bearings. I think they have a section for motorcycles and give them a call for things that aren't listed. I found bearing for little electric motors we work on here.

Don't remember the brand of front wheel bearings, but they felt just a little rough, just rolling them on my last tire change. My '02 S3T had about 28k mi on it & I noticed that the bearing spacer was held in so tightly, between the 2 inner races, that I couldn't move it over to remove the bearings. I had a bike machine shop pull the bearings & rolling them in my hand, they were intact but really rough. I also don't remember the brand but I bought 2 of the best grade bearings from http://www.mcmaster.com/ and pulled them in with a threaded rod (with spacers, contacting only the outer races) till they seated. Again, I noticed that the bearing spacer was held in extremely tight between the inner races. The bearings were a little hard to turn which meant that the bearing recesses were cut in too deep which let the outer races go in too far which let the bearing spacer put too much pressure on the inner races. I managed to move the bearing spacer over enough to use a drift to tap one of the bearings out slightly. The bearing spacer is still held in place, between the bearings, but now can be easily moved from side to side and the bearings turned easily, as they should. It is now not putting any side load on the balls when the wheel is installed & the axel is tightened. They all may not be like mine but my bearing holes were cut too deep (by only a few thousands) and caused side load on bearings which caused wear on the bearings. They make side load bearings for side loading applications but radial load bearings aren’t meant to handle much side loads. I guess that’s why they call them radial bearings. What do you guys & gals think? Now if my Blast gears were as easy to change as my ’84 Sporty gears were, I would have new low gears in it & it wouldn’t be trying to jump out of low. Later,,, De
