Well I decided to go with the 1250 kit for now. I don't have all the funds for the 90ci because of school and I need to get this bike rolling again so this will do. I ordered the 1250cc big bore kit along with a set of stock XL1200 heads and a complete gasket and seals kit. I am also going to get a new oil pump and do some sort of fuel management (DONT KNOW WHAT YET). Also the forcewinder and force exhaust are on the way. What else would yall recommend to replace while I have the motor out and the engine apart? I would rather replace it now while its all apart than wait. THANKS in advance and I will post pics of everything in progress |

Definitely you should,or better have to upgrade the oil pump drive gear, using that 2006 up beryllium gear This an essential for surviving ,IMO!
Maybe strengthen the clutch by two additional steel and one friction plate instead of that double riveted spring plate is a good idea |

You are better off w/ the 1250 anyway. No case boring required. I w/ change push rod bases and all gaskets that look suspect. You will need a Power Commander or the like, I don't believe the race chip will be enough. Maybe a bigger throttle body? There are a number of questionable parts you could improve on. Front exhaust hangar, rear isolators, chain tensioner, O2 sensor, motor mount etc. You will definitely need some Dyno time when it's back together. |

New style primary chain tensioner. New tappets (getting ready to do mine...six weeks after the rebuild because I was too cheap to do them at the time..."nah...they'll be fine".<shrug>). If you've got the money, spring for collapsible pushrod tubes and quick install / adjustable pushrods so you don't have to yank the heads for a cam change down the road. I'm guessing the kit comes with cams? If not, go ahead and get something that will complement the extra displacement. Make sure all your gaskets are metal. Nothing current uses paper gaskets anymore. If you want you can also upgrade to the current XB rocker boxes for about $85 in parts, helps cut down on puke (although I don't seem to have much problem with a well-sealed stock set on either of my tubers). |
