Is it just me or do Harley riders purposely snub us? They can't possibly think they are superior? The funniest is when Sporty owners do it. Do they not realize I have what their bike could and should be? Maybe I need to add fringe,skulls and "live to ride" all over? Is it because our bikes don't look just like a thousand others? Anyway, I think it's funny. I will say this , while the guys may ignore me, their girls always look. | ||

I just love it when you pull into the Harley shop, and everyone just looks at you and your bike. My Buell is louder than most of their bikes, and I think it makes them wonder. I love my D&D! They usually won't say a single word to me. The other funny thing is when your neighbor has a Harley bagger, and he has to get a louder exhaust just to keep up with the kid across the street with the sports bike... I love my neighbors! Haha, especially those VROD whimps at the traffic lights. Trying to run me out, byebye I say. I mostly hate those wannabe posers on their shiny showroom harleys with their new polished harley jackets and weekend beards. Ask them a techniqal question about their own harley, you'll get a laugh. | ||

Most of the fools on Sporty's don't even reckognize their own engine/drivetrain on the X1. I have actually had a few Harley owners ask me who makes Buell. Harley is notorious for having owners w/ plenty of cash and no brains, and in many cases - no hygiene. They do know chrome though. Ha Ha. I think they buy the chrome first and then build a bike around it. Ever see how tough they think they are? As soon as the vest goes on the arms swell up. They are a funny bunch - good for laughs if nothing else. | ||

Hey Chad are you near the Illinois line? If so, let's ride. Every Sun morning about 60-80 bikes meet up on highway 41 just inside Illinois. It would be nice to see a few Buells there. | ||

I love it when they carefully look away from you instead of waving. I don't bother waving to harleys anymore unless I see the familiar sportster eyebrow over the headlight. | ||

Well, I always throw down the peace sign, and if the Harley guys don't give me a little recognition, it quickly turns into the one fingered salute. I don't change position of the hand or wave it around, call me an a-hole. But I like to laugh about it. Oh yea, my woman and I were riding with a buddy and his woman (he's got a Suzuki Boulevard), when a 1200 Sportie pulls up at a light...Now, I just got my race header and D&D Race muffler on, so I cracked the throttle (which ended up being louder than his) and I say, "Yo, same motor!" and point to mine...I don't think he understood...whatever, so the light turns and we start off, he looks over his shoulder and hammers it, I go, "Hell no," and yell hold on while I hammer it and before I'm out of second gear I'm already blowin by him while he's at full throttle... What was great, was that he was on my left so when I flew by, he got a nice screamin exhaust shot...Ha! | ||

Who cares who waves at who? Think about it... can you really stand most motorcyclists anyway? Look at them out there... most of them are clowns whether they ride cruisers (American or Japanese) or sportbikes. I've even seen a few mouth breathers on Buells. I don't care if someone I'd never associate with doesn't wave at me. I have bigger issues to deal with... like the other idiots out there tryin to kill me. | ||

It's really got little to do w/ any wave. I didn't care that they did wave when I had a Harley. I just find it funny that we buy and service our bikes at the same place and they hate us. I am glad to have left the whole crowd, along w/ the bike, behind. I never cared who liked me before I got a bike and don't care now. Which is just the opposite for Harleys. They CRAVE acceptance, to be part of something. Hell, half of them can barely ride, even in a straight line. They are a sorry bunch. | ||

You are now generalizing. There are different kinds of harley owners. 1. the true harley lovers (mostly with technical knowledge) 2. the ones that only want to be part of the lifestyle (recognizeable by their shiny showroom harleys and lack of technical knowledge, they can't even recognize their own engine in a racey looking bike) | ||

Rag - it's actually the "Full Moon" restaurant. Gekk - True, but most I meet or see are of the #2 variety. Why buy a 600#, 50 HP bike that can really only handle decent on a straight or slightly curved road? And spend a small fortune. I can't respect a bike or its rider that has knee warmers,hand warmers,radio,5ft windshield,luggage,fringe,skulls,pillow seat,skinny rear tire, a 200# woman on the back, etc,etc. No offense to anyone. Got to call it like I see it. | ||

Back in the day when there we fewer than 400 Buells I would get a kick out of cruising past a group of parked Harleys with the revs up at 4-5000. I would blip the throttle and downshift about 100 yards before I cruised by and then sail on past with Supertrapp singing. The guys would look up to see where the loud Harley was and then look very puzzled as they could not see a Harley anywhere. | ||

I tend to wave at EVERYONE on a bike. If they dont wont back, Oh well. I stopped the other day to help out a guy on a CB400. Let him use my cell to get gas from a buddy. Maybe I'm too nice. Its a fault I can live with. | ||

I like pulling away from a Harley but gradually winding it out (I am on an XB9) to right at redline before shifting... It's music at close to 8000 RPM's... and when you kind of gently wind it out like that it sounds like it is revving forever... Kind of a "this ain't your dad's sportster" kind of moment.... | ||

heyHEYhey...watch it on the heated clothing slams, I use it when I ride in 10 degree weather! ;) The only waving I do is when I'm in my Wrangler, to other Jeepers...or to another Buell. Hell, I've been known to chase down other tubers when I see them on the road! But most HD'ers don't even wave at each other around here, they're too busy trying not to drop their bikes. But the unfortunate part is (and I sell the damn things...) most HD buyers now (note I didn't say "owners" because there are quite a few old-timers out there who know their shyte) are of the "lifestyle" bunch - they want a Harley because their buddy down the street has one, and their kids orthodontist has one, and they think it'll give them some youth back or something. That reminds me, I better run out at lunch and grab my copy of Wild Hogs on DVD before they run out, LOL! | ||

i just wind it up with my force pipe and the heads just snap, then they look away cause they are thinkin (damn thats louder than mine!) At bike night some of the hd guys stop and say nice bike others just walk buy tryin as hard as they can not to look, and then there is the idiot sporty or softy rider that says who makes this? well just look at the motor ding dong! put two and two together and it makes harley. | ||

Rat- Funny thing is my "other" ride is a Wrangler. I picked up the 06 35th Anniversary Edition last year. I definitely get more waves in the Jeep. I have Banks headers and cat back along with K & N forced air intake. The Jeep has a real nice rumble to it.I have even been known to set off a few car alarms. | ||

Not sure what neck of the woods you guys ride in but I've never had any issues with HD riders. They've been quite pleasant -- in fact, I ran out of fuel and one of them stopped by the road and picked me a can of gas. Some of the nicest people you'd meet. Shoot, it's those Squids "wanna-be Rossi" that refuse a nod or a hand wave who love to ride with blaring exhaust. What a bunch of losers! Most people in my area mistake the Buell for a Ducati. I had one mistake it for a Britten! | ||

when i'm riding one of the bikes i don't wave at the people ridin, i wave at the bikes. don't care whether the people wave back or not. i like all bikes and not so many people, but i've met a lot of good people on bikes. just my perspective. tim | ||

I try not to judge any rider by the type of bike he chooses to ride. When I bought my new Triumph 650 in 1970 there was a bit of friction between Triumph riders and harley riders and both groups felt superior to those who rode Japanese bikes. Pretty stupid really. From my current perspective, my Triumph is still the best looking, my Suzuki Bandit 1200 is still the fastest, and my Buell is the still the coolest. I respect riders of all types of bikes but have little patience for poseurs regardless of what they own and attempt to ride. I wave at riders of all types of bikes and I don't give a damn if they wave back or not. If they do, that's nice. If they don't, no big deal. It's not what you ride as it is how you ride it and why you ride. I just ride because I like it. | ||

The Harley guys tend to treat me as one of their own. I tend to associate more with the sport crowd. This weekend I rode with two Aprilias, an ST1100, and an HD of some sort. Everyone had a good time. | ||

Dave_02 has a good point. Riders, I like - and even if I don't like a particular individual rider, I will usually respect them. Poseurs...not so much. It's unfortunate that the poseurs seem to be taking over lately. | ||

i completely agree with dave_02_1200 and smoke, half the time i dont get a wave, i bet i get a nod of the head, not that i notice, being too busy checkin out the bike they ride. Just keep riding and waving, or if you really need people waving at you all the time(or possibly laughing), go get a VW bus or something  | ||

I agree with Dave - I like the motorcyclists that I've met in general. I wave to everybody regardless of the kind of bike they ride. If they don't wave back then they're the one with a problem. Besides, I think all motorcyclists have a lot of common values. What exactly defines a 'true rider' versus a 'poser'? Is a true rider the adventure tourer who rides his dual-sport through the wilderness? The Harley rider who can rebuild an engine with a blindfold on? The sportbike rider who can blaze through the twisties faster than anyone? The Iron Butt Goldwing rider who logs 100,000 miles a year? Of course we know that Buell riders are the only true riders.  We're all posers in somebody's view. Life's too short to worry about such inconsequential differences. Everyone has their own reasons for riding, but the important thing is that they're RIDING! I usually wont wave to HD riders or short wearers 1st, but will happily wave or nod if they wave. A couple of weeks ago I was up in the Bangor Maine area and was following my usual practice, but up there EVERYBODY waved at every bike/rider! I was shocked to say the least. We passed dozens, maybe hundreds of riders and at the end of the day, I only saw one hand that didn't go up.... HD riders don't bother me, the ones who know their bikes are usually cool, and the ones buying into the lifestyle supply me with endless amusement! |
