I've replaced my oil pressure sensor and the thing still doesn't work. Logically I have a short in the wiring harness between the sensor and the harness connector or the other side of the connector and the light socket. The bulb checks out fine, all the other lights work (turn signal indicators, Neutral, High beam). My question is this, is there a way to check if the sensor is working? Maybe the new one I have is bad. Does anyone know how to test one? Thanks Matt |

If you have a short in the wiring, the light would be on all the time. |

I am pretty sure all the oil pressure switch does is complete a ground so when there is no pressure the light turns on. SO if you got a voltmeter you should be able to check weather the switch is opening or closing when running/off |

If you have a short in the wiring, the light would be on all the time. Not neccesarily. I had a short in the wire that would trip the switch. The wire covering had worn out right at the back of the cam cover. Everytime the wire would make contact with the cover, the oil light would come one. Trace the wire back from the switch and look for spots were it may have rubbed. Good luck!! (Message edited by lake_bueller on August 13, 2007) |

Thanks Nate/Tony So then I must have a break in the wire somewhere after the sensor So for the electrically challenged I should be able to go from oil sensor post (the metal thingy at the bottom) to a ground and look for infinite resistance with engine not running and something less when engine is running, correct? |

Take the wire off of the sender and touch it to the chassis with the ignition on. The light should come on. If not, follow the wire up. Here is an autocad image of the circuit. It took me many hours to draft (draught) it out.

Nate Awesome graphics, I'll bet you get calls from Pixar all the time Wire was broken about 1/4" up from the connector, I'm thinking I need to take it easier on the wiring, ot zip tie it better Thanks guys Thanks (Message edited by mbsween on August 13, 2007) |

Everyone, I believe I have the same problem as Mbsween:
Where does the wire go into the the oil pressure switch? Do you take the top off? My manual is hazy on this. Also, what type of connector is used to secure the wire to the switch. I have a 98' S3. Thanks |
