Well, I finished up my first "major" repair last night...well, not major but it's the first thing other than switching cans and changing the oil I have ever done. So, Tuesday night I tore her down to replace the primary seal and the starter seal which had both blown (they were the stock ones). I also put on my D&D race muffler and Buell Race Header, changed the oil...OMG, does she sound beautiful! and she doesn't leak oil now! I'm proud of myself and I think I will be doing more now that I popped that cherry! | ||

It's really not that difficult when you follow the book, perform each step correctly, label your parts as you take it apart, and follow the torque specs to a tee when you reassemble. Congratulations! Now go get the gunk out from under your nails ;) | ||

Yeah, that D&D is a wonderfull sound... And, you will find, most repairs really arent that bad... In my case, I am my own worst enemy... That, and I need to keep my shop cleaner... tearing and engine back down, to find a tool... only find out, my neighbor snagged it while I was getting some water... Chase | ||

The book does help a lot! But, I've never touched a bike before...only cars and trucks....So now I'm not as hesitant to turn a wrench..Thanks everyone! | ||

You will probably find that you perform your own repairs with alott more attention to detail than the guy that's getting paid at the dealer. Just the knowledge of whats going on inside your bike makes it worth the time. Leave machine work to the machine shop but everything else can be handled with the help of your fellow Buellers | ||

I've found in switching from working on cars to working on my bike, the little details matter (like zip tying the brake line after removing the fender as to avoid it rubbing against the tire. Ask me how I know...) (Message edited by shadowracerx1 on August 09, 2007) | ||

Hey Nutz... Nice satisfying feeling to know that after all the prep and worrying you can do your own wrenching. I just completed my own rocker box gasket switch and only had to swear a couple of times and made two or three extra trips to the store for extra allen wrenches. I wouldn't have been as confident with out the help from the KV and fellow BWBers. Thanks Guys!! Michael | ||
