i know what you all are thinking... this moron has his idle set too high or a sticky cable. well... the cable is 100% free and after removing the intake and watching the butterfly slam all the way shut more than once i am lost as to what is making my bike hover idle at 2 grand while riding after the bike is hot. i adjusted the idle at cold first start to 1000 rpm. the only thing i have done different to the bike is hold the butterfly open with the throttle and wipe all the black junk out of there from my previous spooge line. could i have messed with the tps sensor? the book says not to remove it, does this mean unplugging it or dont remove it from the butterfly at all. also i started it for a short minute or two with no intake in it at all. now i dont think this should have made any difference because i run a carbon can style intake with virtually no restriction. | ||

but say i come to a red light and it is running at 2000 rpm, if i have the bike in gear and let the clutch out a bit it will go back down to 1000 rpm. so it is like something is sticking, but the butterfly is going completely shut! will it hurt anything to spray carb cleaner in there while the motor is running? | ||

I agree with Ratbuell. I used to have similar issues until I set my idle to 950 when HOT. | ||

Ronald, this could be an electrical problem. Try this: Ride about 15 kilometers at 3200 rpm constant! So it selfprograms. | ||

I bought mine from a family whos owner (father) had passed. The bike had been sitting for a LONG time approximately 4-5 months... Said they were not sure what really caused it.... just some type of glitch in the computer... Rumor was that he had the FULL race system installed on the X1 and then did the RACE ECU... They were NOT sure if the TPS was set then or not.... Mine would ONLY do it when HOT and the would hang at about 1800 rpm. Only for about a 1/2 second then would drop to normal... It did it in ANY gear and in neutral when hot. Hope that helps... Now mine is running VERY strong and smoothe. Matt. | ||

One reason the TPS reset would cure it... The first step is to loosen the idle adjuster, all that way, to the throttle plate snaps all the way shut... Then they reset it... Fire it off... etc.. Chase | ||

This is a relatively common problem. Try spraying WD-40 around in the intake during idle to make sure you don't have a leak. Make sure there's no crud around the perimeter of the intake throttle valve and manifold. Like the other posts say, set your idle adjustment when hot (around 1000). If you have problems with it starting up when cold then fine tune it just low enough where it will idle. | ||

sorry for kinda asking a question before i troubleshot myself, i went home from work yesterday and took the intake off once again and wiped out the intake manifold again with a rag and cleaned the butterfly just with a rag no cleaner of any kind, made sure there was no play in the cable of the butterfly and set idle while hot, runs like a champ again. must have been a piece of something just enough to sneak air by. | ||
