I am sure this has been covered before, but I would like some fresh input on what everyone feels is the best spark plug for my Buell. I have heard plenty of good things about NGK. Specifically DCPR8EIX and the cheaper DCPR8E. I am worried about pinging since I just finished rebuilding my engine due to detonation. Should I go for a colder plug? For instance a "9" instead of an "8" heat range. Thanks, Mike | ||

I'm running HD 10R12s (I think...it's late, but I know they start with 10) in both mine - factory Thunderstorm engine in the S1W, and new Thunderstorm top end (factory stuff) on the S2. No ping...now that I took all the timing advance out that the PO had put in on the old Sporty-spec motor, LOL. Never had a ping out of the S1W either. | ||

Running Buell Pro-Series on a 2K X1. I believe they are 8R12? Anyway, no complaints, bike runs strong. Exhaust seems to be running cooler than w/ the stock plugs. At least my leg isn't getting cooked anymore. I also use the Pro-Series wires. I try to use Buell parts on anything engine related. | ||

Mike (Buell82), I have been using the standard NGK DCPR8E at $3.00 a piece but trim them like the picture below. This is one way to propagate better flame travel in the combustion chamber and tends to stem detonation pretty well. Its an old racers trick I learned from Bill (Grumpy) Jenkins, renowned in the drag racing world and it flat works without having to index the plug. Of course if high compression present it would require premium fuel and remember jetting & compression is what determines the heat produced in the combustion chamber. I stopped side-gapping plugs a long time ago when I started using platinum plugs in my Chevy bracket car (couldn't do it with the tiny electrode on Bosch plugs). I forgot I ever did this... I'll give it a shot the next time I have my plugs out. I use the regular ol' 10R12's btw. | ||

Another thing to keep in mind (since I was looking for them earlier today) - the pro series wires have been discontinued. Looks like the S2's getting good ol' S/E 32092-98 wires. I opted for the black instead of the orange ;) | ||
