Hey guys, I've done some very agressive riding in the mountains and now I am signed up for a Sportbike Track Time track day. I want to make some mods to the bike before then. I like the look of clipons and really want the more sportbike feel when I'm riding, but I am worried they might be too low. If they are okay for the track and short rides, its ok. I can also make a dual bar setup where I can just move the bars for longer rides. I am 6'5" and feel like I'm riding a trailbike a lot of the time due to the current bar height(about 5" above triple clamp). Is anyone running a true clipon below the triple clamp? For the pegs, I have not scrubbed them, but in a few corners when the suspension compressed I scrubbed my toe slider and kickstand. So I'd like to maybe move the pegs as I'm sure once my confidence is up on the track, I will be a lot more aggressive. I may just modify them to be tapered and narrow them by eliminating the hinge. Any input? Anyway, I'd like to see who is running clipons and would like to see pics. I would also like to see rearset setups(especially customs setups). Thanks. | ||

Personally, the CrossRoads bars, and rear-sets, are probably the best compromise I have found with the X1... I dont have any pics of the bars, but, I have some pics of the rear sets, and I made my own pegs... so, they are nice and narrow... Once you get some more time/skill etc, start hanging off, if you hang off the side, you will find that you dont have to lean the bike as far in a corner for a given speed, as without hanging off...changes the center of gravity...and you wont drag your toes and pegs... FWIW, I have NOT been able to drag a peg with these rear sets... Chase EDIT: If you are catching your side stand, there is a problem. The only time mine has touched the ground, is during a a low side... When that thing is up, it should be UP... should be approx even with the rear axle bolt...   The pegs are moved up 2" and back 2" Believe me, that is more than enough. You might find though, that at your height, these things, will make your legs sore... Chase | ||

Great looking bike. Love the dual headlight setup. And I am hanging off the bike, I've put the knee down on one of our local roads...the baby dragon as we call it. The only time I've dragged the kickstand was in when mid corner haning off the bike I encountered a dip that compressed the suspension and caused my toe, knee, and kickstand to hit at the same time. On the track I'm going to, I know the surface is level with no dips. So I probably wont have a problem. But I also want to make sure I don't scrap on the road too. I may just make the peg mods as you said, at my height I will probably be uncomfortable. Thanks, | ||

I know you have an X1 but these pictures will still give you an idea .. Pictured with Crossroads rearsets and true fork clip-ons ..   Pictured with Crossroads style narrow tanked 7 degree down bars and rearsets (same bike)...   I'd say the true clip-ons are great for aggressive riding - but suck at anything under 40-50mph ... over that they are fine - the Crossroads style are a good all around - aggressive while still providing more comfort for daily use than true clip-ons .. .. (I left the clips on the fork tubes for track day use ... top mount bars for every day use) The true clip-ons are REAL low ... they are not for everyone - they are lower than just about all sportbike bars ... The crossroads bars for your bike will be much wider and farther forward than the ones in my pictures .. which will have you reaching more .. Pictured with Crossroads bars that would fit the X1 - (spares from my M2) - comparison with actual clip-ons   Oh -- rearsets won't necessarily stop pegs dragging .. Mine are seriously ground down as is my kick stand .. (that just means we're not hanging off the bike enough) | ||

Tattoed, great pics. That's exactly what I wanted to see. I guess I'll just check on the bike and see if the tru clip on will work with my tank without hitting and if I will be okay with the position. I think I could make the crossroads style myself for normal driving and then use the true clip ons for track or sport. | ||

Will those crossroads work with the manta tank? I think not? The Crossroads bars pictured in the last 2 pics are made specifically for the bigger tank on the 99+ M2, S3, and X1 ... and the S1W ... The last picture is shown with the forks at full lock ... if you'll notice - plenty of room for the bigger tank ... Wicked - true clip-ons will work with any tank .. that is the nice part - you set the pull back where you want it - I did mine as close as possible to to the tank without hitting it - they clip right on the fork tubes so the only thing determining where they sit is you and your tank - I prefer the smaller tank on the S1 for aggressive riding as it allows the bars to be further back, easier to handle and it's less bike to jump around when hanging off in the corners ... Crossroads bars will work on the manta tank (I have a set and love em!). Not sure if they are the same part number as a regular S1 though. | ||

If anyone's interested, I do have a set of 7 degree down crossroads bars for a Manta tank bike. I ran them for about six months, and found the zero degree bars to be more comfortable in town. American Sport Bike has them for over $300; I'll sell these for the $125 I paid for the zero degree ones. Immaculate condition, only marks are from installation  | ||

The narrow tank S1 bars are different than the S1W/X1 bars. All of the old tube frame crossroads bars are -7 degrees, relative to the mounting plate. The XB's were the first ones that we did flats with. The flats would fit the mounting plates on the tubers, but I've never tried them, so I don't know about tank clearance at lock. The flats are .7 narrower per side as well. The tuber pseudo-clip-ons are $209, the XB pseudo clip ons are $249. Not over $300. You need the plate too, not just the bars, to mount them. AL | ||

I though I paid over $300 for the bars and plate...but you're the man and it was a while ago, I'm sure you're correct. Sorry for the misinformation. The flats I have are on a Buell plate engraved with the old Pegasus logo - are they all-Buell, or just a Buell plate with flat Crossroads bars? They do clear the manta...barely. I had to re-do the nipple hole to locate the switch housings at a different angle (buttons pointed further up than stock) so the bottom of the throttle cable didn't rub at full right lock. No issues with them that way, other than having to pay attention when cancelling the turn signal because I have a tendency to push the button at an angle instead of straight in. | ||

If you run Crossroads bars on an M2, be aware that they are wider than the stock tubular bars and there is no easy way to shorten them without modifying either the flyscreen, or the front brake reservoir. Stock M2 bars are a little less than 28" wide.  The front brake reservoir is right next to the flyscreen with the Crossroads. At over 31 inches, the bars were too wide and put my wrists at a severe angle.  I shortened the bars as far as they would go and cut out the flyscreen for the interference. The brake reservoir is 'frenched' into the flyscreen.  The shortened bars are a lot more comfortable with the 7 degree downward angle of the tuber Crossroads and my upper body doesn't catch the wind as much with my arms spread out so wide.. As a plus, the switchgear is farther from the tank, too. It was touching at full lock at the original width.  I like the look...  | ||

How many of you are just running regular drag bars? I put some on a 96 S1 about 5 years ago and really liked it but the bike I have now has the manta tank and I don't know if drag bars will work with the manta tank. Anyone tried it? | ||
