Checked the KV could not find answer. What is best way to install fork oil seals on 2002 M2. | ||

I did my S3 fork seals last summer. Borrowed three tools, one to compress the springs, one to install new seals and a third to measure the oil fill level. I know the S3 forks are different than the M2, but the M2 are probably similar to the forks on my Sportster Sport. The tool for installing the seals is a heavy metal device that splits in two pieces down the length and has roll pins to keep the two pieces in line when you use it. The technique is to slip the new seal over the fork slider, place the fork slider into the fork, then use the install tool to drive the seal down the slider into the recess in the fork. The one I used was for 41mm forks and I used it on both my 39mm Sportster Sport and the Buell S3 forks. Hope that answers your question. | ||

I'm assuming that you know that the forks need to be removed and disassembled to replace the seals. The FM details these steps. | ||

I just did the ones on my 00 M2. As Barry says, you need the tool. I did everything but install the new seals. For that I took them over to my local independent dealer who seems to work on anything and everything. As far as dissassembling the forks you can do that yourself. It's explained in the service manual. Not totally clear, but you need to pry up the dust seals very carefully (small screwdriver). Then remove the wire retaining ring (small screwdriver). Then slide the lower leg up and down like a slide hammer and it will hammer out the seal and upper bushing. Obviously, you need to remove the upper cap and the whole spring damper rod as one (bolt at bottom of fork leg). | ||

Got them all redone used the old seal and a piece of PVC to seat the new seals looks good thanks for the input ! |
