I tune into this thread on a very infrequent timescale. This way I get a huge surprise. A very interesting project. There are things I see that you are doing that look great and I would do myself, and there are those things I see and I think why didn't he do it that way instead. Why not take out that nose section on the silencer box? I'd go with a different light set-up at the front. The twin thing is a little clumsy in appearance given how minimal you have the rest of the design. I like the X1 arm and I'm not a fan of the XB arm. I would like to see an X1 arm on your build using the XB rear shock set-up, but I'm assuming you're using the arm as the oil tank. Hope you don't mind my thoughts. They're no means meant as criticism. Looking good. Rocket |

Jodie-nope, bought the XB9r used, had to have the white wheels I look at my chassis almost everyday while heading to work and think about how close it is(was) to being done, but the time consuming part is what was to come, so I guess I'm living vicariously through you also! I also check in as I dig what your doing and enjoy seeing the craftmanship. keep em coming... |

Rocket-I'm also open to suggestion as I have taken advice on some changes before i.e the rear hugger and removing the pillion pegs. I like you aren't a great fan of the front of the exhaust, but as I couldn't get hold of the mandrel bends I wanted for a reasonable amount of cash(trying to stick to a budget, sort of!) I ended up with what you see, I was hoping I could modify it some when I get an X1 lower fairing so it won't matter what it looks like behind there! having said this it has grown on me As with the XB twin headlights, I love them they're quite a lot lighter then the X1 setup I've already got. I have always tried to keep this project looking like it was made at the factory using as many genuine Buell parts as possible, even the parts I've made I try and give them a factory look as in the side stand, rear subframe etc I don't know how successful I've been though! Most street fighters you see have a "I'm a wrecked bike with no fairings look" about them, but thats only my opinion. I like the X1's swingarm also but as it's been done so many times it's not very different! I'm eventually going to source one of the latest XB swingarms to change the look a bit more, should be a straight swap bar the oil lines. The X1 swingarm wont work easily with the XB shock as its way to long, you'd end up with the shock horizontal and above the centre of the rear wheel. Maybe you can get a shorter one, you have very limited space behind the rear cylinder to mount the shock. I hope some of this makes sense? And you'd then have to fabricate an oil tank. Thanks Oldog not many parts needed know I'm down to- the fly screen speedo clutch hub-on order XB oil cooler and cover front disc, caliper and hose paint and powder coat Once I have that clutch hub I'm going to oil her up and kick her in the guts! maybe even do a lap of the block before I pull her down for paint! Cheers all Jodie |

Jodie I have followed you build almost daily since it started. Nice work. I many have missed this and I just reviewed it all, is that a complete XB front end? Thanks Joe PS keep posting. Joe |

I've taken some pictures tonight of the shim/spacer I made to track the belt. I got to use my 4 jaw chuck on my lathe for the first time I machined out the centre to the size of the mounting boss of the pulley, drilled some holes and cut out the rest with a coping saw, filed and sanded. Not the prettiest part but with a coat of paint it wont be seen any way. I thought while I had the wheel off I might try my new rear wheel on...I'm keen to try some of those new Continental Attack tyres on these wheels! love the look of them. Pic's are all clickable Well here's the spacer here's it on the wheel Here with the pulley And some pictures fitted to the bike, can't wait to have the frame powder coated the same colour as the wheels! Cheers Jodie |

Man, I think there are more than just a couple of people watching this buildup, Jodie. I know I've been keeping an eye out for updates. I agree that the exhaust/muffler junction isn't the best feature. But I think that a chin spoiler will cover it up and look great. Awesome work so far! |

Have you checked the belt tension with the swingarm full up and full down? I'm wondering if you'll have binding at either extreme. Nice job! Keep up with the pictures. |

It runs loose but does get tighter at full compression, but not as tight as it did if set to the factory spec for my old S3 setup. I've always run it looser than the owners manual said. I'm around 90kg and I've gotten a friend who is over 100kg to sit on the bike then compress the suspension more and the belt tension is more than satisfactory. |

question...did you take the stock mirror and heat it up with a torch to bend it?... aka make it less mickey mouse? it looks like my dad's solution to the shoulder magnifying glass. btw...i have enjoyed lurking and watching your bike build take shape...i only wish the xb forum were as creative and into performance modifications like old school buellers. omg...my firebolt headlights! why does my buell surge at low rpms? arrrghh!!!!!! |

Thanks for your comments My mirrors are stock X1 Buell which I think are the same as the XB lightnings... With time and money permitting once this project is done I'd like to build a tube framed XB...But as soon as this things done I'm going for a ride! |

Hey Joe, is that spacer you made the one that I'll need to put the XB wheels on my 97 Cyclone? BTW, I think that I forgot to mention that I have the new style "aluminum arc" cyclone swing arm. If this spacer is what I'll need, how much would it run me to have you make me one? |

Ron that spacer is only for my project, I made it so I could track the belt. I'd make them for you but very difficult to do with out the bike here...In Australia! Your best bet would be to contact sjh (Seth) as he has XB wheels on an X1. He is doing a similar mod to mine so he may sell his old spacers, or be able to have them copied. JB |

I am very excited about the Ducati/Harley thing. What great bikes we would have to look forward to. All that crap about "can't have your cake and eat it too" is a bunch of bull. Imagine what that would do for Buells. The tech sharing would bring some wicked-tough rides! |
