Do any of you know if the M2 tank is a direct fit replacement tank for an S1? Im lookin for the extra range the 5 gal. M2 tank will offer, but i want as few mods as possible to make it work. thanks graham | ||

Should just bolt right on, will make your bike look like a White Lightning edition. Hope you can stand that=) If you really want longer range find a 97-98 S3 tank but the M2 will be a big improvement over what you have now. | ||

It's a direct bolt on, but I won't swear your handlebars will clear. I bought my M2 with an S1 tank on it and went back to an M2 tank. I'm not sure what bars I had (S1 or XB9S I'm guessing), but they wouldn't fit with the M2 tank. You might need M2 or S1W bars. Depending on which year tank you get, you might need different screws for the petcock if the M2 tank doesn't come with it. Also, if you're transferring the filler ring from your S1 tank, don't skip the part of the manual that says you need to seal it with Hylomar. | ||

thanks for the info, i recently found that i have the "small" tank (3gal) looks good, but only for about 120 miles at a time! littlebuggles; what size is the s3 tank? | ||

my 97 m2 had the small tank from the factory. I put the s3 tank on it.....fits.   | ||

I believe it's rated at 5.4 gal. I don't get that much in mine though. 4.8 or so is all it'll take but that is .3 more than the old tank held. I know I can do 189.10 miles mixed city and freeway before I have to push. I imagine at a steady 80mph I could get around 200 on one tank but I never do that many at a constant speed on the interstate. |
