All, I have a 2001 M2 and I'm heading to homecoming in a few weeks. I was wondering what people have done for added storage on these bikes? i currently have a tank bag, and was considering getting another tank bag to strap on the back. As far as i know, there are no saddle bags or the like. Any ideas? Thanks! | ||

The Ventura rack and bag(s) is your best option. There is already a thread going about the Ventura rack on Cyclones. Al and Joanne at American Sport Bike carry them. Chase harper sells some nice saddlebags. They are soft sided and hold their own shape due to foam. (personally, I bungee a backpack to the back of my X1) I hope to see you there  | ||

Fedex a box ahead of time and only use your tank bag. DON'T send it ground, make sure it is guaranteed delivery so it is there when you arrive. | ||

I bungee a waterproof bag to the back of mine. It fits my small tent and sleeping bag, plus a change of clothes and some other small stuff.   I wish I had a picture of my setup from MBIV, I had my large soft saddlebags on as well as the top bag. M2Statz, do you have a picture of your M2 with the hard bags??? I'll be getting a Ventura rack for my M2 shortly. | ||

alot of good options out there. check out profile. never leave home without them. those are buell bags that you can hardly find anymore but they have held up pretty good over the years. good luck and have fun up there. | ||

Here is the M2 with the 45 liter Ventura bag on it. Carlos has traveled to Cincinnati and Daytona for long weekends with that bag packed full.  | ||

Thanks for all of the awesome ideas everyone... I should get my bike back tomorrow, I'm thinking of just straping my backpack to the back seat for now, seeing as to shipping times and such for the real gear will be tight. I will update with pics | ||

Obviously won't be in time for homecoming .. but for future reference .. maybe even check at Hal's while you are down here ... ask for Collin in Parts .. Last year when I picked up all my Buell soft luggage for my M2 there were still a few leftover in Buell obsolete parts (available but not listed that way) .. Anyway - he knows where to check .. good guy to talk to here for Buell stuff .. he's found a few things for me that came up NLA.... | ||

The cyclone bodywork doesn't lend itself easily to simply strapping bags to it. I didn't want to put something on my bike like a luggage rack or the framing that usually comes with saddlebags because it messes with the lines of the bike. I just throw on a backpack and whatever doesn't fit, doesn't go. | ||

I hadn't noticed this thread before. Ventura rack, Ventura bag, Buell saddlebags, Buell tankbag, Extra empty RKA saddlebags being delivered along the way, some other stuff tagged on, old helmet visor overlayed onto flyscreen for National ParkPass stickers and any other stickers picked up along the way. Rode well and worked just fine except for when I wanted to check the oil then it was a hassle. Also portaging all this stuff into a hotel room took several trips every other day or three. If I did it again you'd see about half the load or less. Also, I added a row of LED brake/tail lights below the license plate because the Ventura bag tended to hang down over the rear of the rack partially blocking the stock tail light from following drivers/riders.   | ||

That was for my trip from Wisconsin to Seattle Washington. Apparently I wasn't sure I'd be coming back so I included 25 pounds of tools in there as well including two torque wrenches, I probably could have done a complete roadside rebuild if I'd had to. Since I live here I'll be leaving town this year during Homecoming, thinking I might be able to pick up a few rumors of 2008+ Buells if I listen well where I'm going to.  | ||

When I had an M2, I put a tank bag backwards on the passenger seat. Worked nicely, and could be securely attached to the bike, making it easy to bungee (and remove) extra stuff on top of it quickly. As Jose pointed out, if you carry a backpack (I have to commute with a laptop), you can loosen the straps and let it sit on that tail bag. Still secure, but it takes all the weight off your back. Oh! And thinking about the Buell soft saddle bags, I bet they would work great on an M2 with only minor work. (Message edited by reepicheep on June 28, 2007) | ||

Hey that is NICE. Can we get a picture more from the front? The fairing addition is way cool. Why does it look better than the Thunderbolt? I guess I never liked the tail of the Thunderbolt, this is much better. | ||

Hey!!!! Ebutch beat me to the punch! That's my M-2 in the picture he posted! That picture was taken at the rally at Fontana / Deals Gap in 2001. I have the Buell tank bag and soft bags. The soft bags make a good platform for an "el cheapo" bag that I bought at a discount store. I use a large plastic bag as a liner and fold over the top before I zip up the bag. Everything stays dry that way. Then I use that bag as a platform for the air mattress, sleeping bag, tent, etc. At that rally, we had a Q & A session with Erik over the phone at our Saturday night dinner. Someone asked "When are you going to come out with some serious touring products for the M-2?" I had to laugh. I think I've managed to come up with a way to do some serious packing on my M-2.  | ||

When you don't have to carry tent, the packing can be a lot easier. Here is a picture taken at the same rally, with just the one "el cheapo" bag on top of the Buell soft bags. I bought the tank bag and the soft bags when I got my bike in July 1999. There may still be some New Old Stock ones around somewhere in an older Buell dealership.  |
