Bike ( 2K X1 ) is going in for 500 mile service and numerous mods. Including ECM,Supertrapp,Forcewinder,Plugs,Wires,O2 sensor, shifter update, shock recall and exhaust hangar upgrade. Bikes is running fine except for puking and rpm surge at idle. Which isn't bad considering bike sat for 7 yrs. Mechanic wants to do 500 mile service and nothing else, then I am supposed to ride for an undetermined amount of time. If bikes runs well then he wants to do mods.He claims it MUST run well stock b4 modifying. Isn't this a giant waste of time? Why set up only to completely tear down? I could care less how it runs w/ stock parts as they will be gone. I want it all done now and he STRONGLY advises against it. He even suggested I leave bike the way it is. What gives? |

Warranty Warranty Warranty: if for any reason there are issues with the initial build easier to find them in stock trim Vs modded,[ like your surging problem ] easier to deal with warranty, Why 02 sensor?, plugs, and wires? Do inlet head seals have the recalls done, by shop the shifter "upgrade" may not be a recall item. do the perf work your self. |

I got Bosch O2 sensor, upgrade from suspect stock part. I am more prevention than cure. As for plugs and wires, I opted for the Pro-Series as they are designed by Buell for Buell. I want to ensure I am getting powerfull spark w/ good transfer. I have heard surging very well maybe ECM. Hopefully changing to race ECM will fix it. Though it could be rear temp sensor. That is really the only issue I have. The puking is "normal" and I will address as I go along. I am leaning towards a catch-can.That's why I don't see the need to wait for mods. It's not as though it has a laundry list of probs. It almost seems as though dealer is afraid to work on it? I may change to another dealer a little further away. |

If there is a real problem, adding mods before fixing it may hide the problem or even compound it. I hate to say it, but I agree with the tech...get it right first, then make it faster. Surging could be TPS; could be ECM; could be O2 sensor; could be intake seals. Hell, at seven years and 500 miles, it could be bad gas and clogged injectors/fuel filter. Any one of those things need to function properly in order to get max bang for your buck out of your mods. Also, increased performance equals increased stress on components. If there is a problem, you compound the effects by running it "wrong" with more stress...and you raise the potential for an early failure. Have the dealer bring it back up to spec - and if it includes a major tune they should have no problem using the Pro Series wires and putting on the shift linkage and O2 sensor. If there is warranty still in effect, use it to your full advantage and say thank you . Install the pipe, race ECM and intake yourself (assuming you're familiar with your toolbox and have a shop manual for torque specs). Worst case, after the install you'll have to take it back for "another" TPS reset. Five minutes, and we don't even charge for it where I work it's so easy. Trust me, you won't be bored for the couple of weeks it takes to settle in the "stock" bike. They run like stink when they're right. |

I second the tech's opinion. Make it run straight and then improve it. Oxygen sensors are good for many thousands of miles. Make sure your header is on tightly so that it has a good ground. Also, the puking thing will never go away. It shouldn't be bad enough to show up on the dip stick but it will most likely stain your shoes. Some here have had good luck with installing XB rocker covers+breathers. |

Well I guess we'll let them get it right first, then perf upgrades. I bring it in for 500 mile, get shock and exhaust hanger fixes, change shift linkage, chain tensioner, plugs,wires,O2 sensor. Then run it for say a few hundred miles. If all is well, add the exhaust, chip and intake? |

The first thing you should have bought is a service manual. |
