2000 M2 with S3 fairing and gauges speedo and odometer no work. Any ideas? Thanks

The odometer is on but does not click off the miles. So I thought it safe to assume that not a fuse issue. But will double check.

Sorry when you said that I thought the whole cluster had gone blank. If your Odo/trip is on my not clocking then you blew your speedo sensor.

A new one will run about $60 YMMV

What Spidy Says. Its a very common problem on that era, the new part solves the root problem.

...or you may be able to get away with cleaning the sensor, if its covered with shavings. Pull it out, remove any debris, and reinstall. If that doesn't do it, you need 74402-95B, list price 54.70.

Make sure you get the updated speedo sensor, part number 74431-01. It has shorter leads, a grey (not black) connector, and replaces 74402-95.

While I'm sure it will work, it does not show 74431-01 as a supersession of the 95B part. 74431-01 shows as applicable to XB/P3, and it actually supersedes to an -01B.

The older part will likely die of the same cause - Reepicheep documented a solution to the problem if you catch it before it dies. Rather than buy and modify an older part, the new part incorporates the update. I've had a 74431-01 for 20k miles in my 2001 Cyclone, after frying two 74401-95 in quick succession.

If you can get a deal on the old one, we can protect it... but unless they more or less give it to you, I would just make sure you get the new part and be done with it.

I got pretty sick of building regulators : )

Yes the speedo sensor is powered by the same circuit that powers the injectors. Lots of noise on that circuit. Filter the power going to the speedo sensor with properly polarized diodes and a capacitor to ground and problem goes away.

A 5v regulator would be a better bet (and only about $3 more parts)... or just use the updated factory part.

I doubt you could get the old speedo sensor part.

Actually the old part is still readily available, and what is listed as "correct" for that bike.

Good info on the new part though; I never knew it was combined with the FI circuit. Of course, both my bikes are carb and have a gear on the front wheel for the speedo!
