I have been using a borrowed XB City X for about a weeks time. My first impression was that this was a dirt bike for the street. I live in chicago and get a good cross section of city streets, expressways, and alleys to ride, negotiate traffic- read lane splitting- and find new routes to old locations. The City X gave me more confidence to thread tight routes than any bike I have ridden on the street. I came off an FXRT when I bought my S-2, and I felt that same way about the Buell's handling being so superior to the FXR. The difference in the S-2 and the XB is not quite so striking, but the handling, at least quickness of handling is remarkable. having said that, let me also add that I was impressed with the City x, the fuel injection, how the entire Buell package had evolved since I bought my S-2T so many years ago. But the heat of this past weekend, and that fan going off-does it blow or suck? and hot thighs. All of a sudden I could sympathize with posts on the XB board on that same subject. Yesterday I got the S-2 out to hit the Old Town art fair and the tail end of the chicago Blues fest. As soon I put it in 1st gear and headed down the alley towards the Expressway, I was in a different place. slower handling yes, and softer power, but it felt like a bagger compared to the City X. some heat on the right hand calf, but no fan and more wind protection. I fell in love with the S 2 all over again. don't get me wrong, the XB is a great bike, and on paper has it all over the old Tuber, but in real world riding I don't see that same gap as on paper. love them both, but I don't see the S 2 leaving my garage anytime soon. Also, a tnx to the BWBB for the knowledge vault, it is like having a service mgt at your disposal. |
