I noticed after my commute home from work one day my taillight lens had fallen off my S2. Been watching the classifieds here and on ebay for several days with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas where I can pick one up? Can the dealer still get these? Thanks for your help. Also, if anyone has a set of S2 touring bars laying around they are not using I would be interested in taking them off your hands. |

I'll check at work tomorrow. I'm pretty sure it's still available, but I think only as an assembly (lens/reflector). |

I wonder why they only sell it as an assembly? They show a part number for the lens (68074-94Y) in my 02 S3 parts book. I needed on for my bike and had to buy the whole assembly. |

>>>>I wonder why they only sell it as an assembly? It's mostly the fault that that heathen Dave Gess! The good news is that, at the time, we were having to take and sell lots of stuff (headlights, front forks, etc) as complete units. Service parts is a real involved thing and at the time we had neither the people nor the poop with suppliers or the $$ or space to deal with lots of parts and pieces. Dear Mr. Gess penned a 3 page gifted piece of work (of course, I have the original) when he and I were doing a project together. I'm not sure he can claim full credit for the great state of Buell parts but he certainly put the jumpers cables on it. Just be glad you aren't needing a chrome headlight ring for a 1997 M-2! |

"Service parts is a real involved thing" I hear you on that! I worked in the "service parts" department, at the Ford plant, that made all the "service" tail, parking and side marker lights for Ford. It was always an adventure. |

We threw away brand new bezels for park and turn lamps for the 64-67 Mustangs. Perfectly good parts that I see at times going for BIG money at swap meets. |

I have a set of S2T bars I bought, but have never used. I don't know what they're worth. |

Thanks for your responses. I've been coming to badweb for a couple of years now but rarely post. This is a wonderful source of information and often entertainment. I will check with dealer for replacement assembly. Will an S3 assembly fit the S2? Just curious if they say the S2 is not available. Rich, PM sent on the touring bars. |

95s2, if you get a new assembly let me know if you don't want to hold on to the shiny reflector part. Mine melted. My lens melted a wee-bit but not too bad. Which brings me to a good point, make sure keep an eye on your brake lights. I found out that if you don't pay attention when working on the right-hand switch housing you can leave too much of a gap between the brake lever and the brake switch which leaves your brake light permanently on. Those bulbs get pretty hot when they're on high all the time... hot enough to melt plastic. I switched to LED lights from AutoZone they run 100x cooler. Will an S3 assembly fit the S2? I hate to differ with Court, but the same taillight was used from the RS days until the end of the S3 days. As far as I remember they all used the same (modified) taillight lens, and they all have the same 'guts'. The modification done to the taillight lens was a portion of red plastic material that hangs below the bottom was cut off. Maybe later versions had the need for this modification removed by molding the lens without the additional plastic, but the taillight assembly should fit as normal for anything from a RS to a S3. Coming to you (temporarily) from Berlin, Germany, 1313 |

It does supersede to an "assembly", lens and reflector together. Y0401.2QQ, readily available, listed as "vendor direct" which translates to about a 5 day order timeframe. |

Just a thought... The fact that I just got back to my hotel in Berlin at nearly 4:00 a.m. after being at the bar should not influence the statement that I am about to make, as I have been thinking about this all day - just been away from a computer all day. It is probably a good thing that only the whole assembly is available. If you lost your lens, odds are that the holes in the backing plate are stripped. I've had this happen a couple of times with my S2. If the holes are stripped and you just replace the lens - guess what? Very soon you would need to get another lens & the backing plate, which is nearly the whole assembly. Off topic, Friday night I saw my first Buell on the streets in Berlin - a blue XB9R with the white 'Le Mans' stripe kinda like the Blue race stripe X1. IIRC, a Buell dealer in Germany (maybe Hannover?) did a special XB9R with this paint job. He was at a stop light with a Triumph Speed Triple waiting for the green light. However, this was not my first Buell experience during this trip to Berlin. Of course I stopped in at the local Buell dealer the first day I was in town. The fact that I did not sleep on the planes over here did not cloud my judgement any. The salesman I talked to races the dealerships V-Rod Destroyer and has a XB9R of his own. I suppose I should shut up and let you all know to watch for the Tale Section posting of my experiences in Germany - once I get home and post it, of course... My advice is to get the whole assembly and evaluate the backing plate that was on the bike when you lost the previous lens and if it is good save it for a spare. Lord knows, spares are GOOD! Happy Buelling! 1313 |

Hey guys, Ratbuell was correct, the assembly must be ordered by the part # he provided. Cost was $53.50 and shipping will be about a week. Thanks for your help. By the way, Rich offered a pair of S2T bars earlier in the thread. We settled on price an he even shipped them before he was paid. Bars were better than he represented. Rich is a stand up guy for those who may trade with him in the future. Not_purple_s2: pm sent. |
