My front isolator failed this weekend. My question is, did I install it incorrectly? I put it in like the old one, but it is a superseded part. Does it have a top? I'll have a new one again soon and I don't want to do this job three times! It's not a lot of fun getting to those fasteners. Thanks for your help!

I think this is an ongoing problem, I had my front bracket fail, possibly due to premature failure of either isolater bushing or bolt. This is my second one in less than a year, and less than 6,000 miles. I have not gotten any real answers to this problem. There is an old style isolater bushing available through Jireh cycles, it is part number 5-101, for 82-83 fxr HD's. OEM Part# 16207-79B. It looks identical to the L0501.Z that you have in your bike, the supposed superseded part that appears to be failing according to us owners, yet is a "new and improved" part designed to fix this problem , according to Buell. ????????? The 5-101 from Jireh has a much stiffer rubber in it, than the "new" part from Buell, and I think it is identiacal to the old bushing, like Buell used originally. Plus, it is $17.95, as opposed to 43+ $ from HD.
Good Luck, and maybe you can get some reAl answers to this issue!

Bigblock, Thanks for the help! Do you have a phone number for Jireh? I want to give one of theirs a try!

And yes, it does have a top. The flat part goes up for the big d-washer to sit on.

Harley's are having the same problem with touring models using a newer part# isolator. I wonder if they had a running change to both parts? Different material or manufacturer?

Bigblock, Thanks again for the info on Jireh. I pulled out the old one and it was in correctly. It is labeled top even! I was questioning myself because I did it late at night. Hopefully the new one will live a while!

You probably put it in right. I have tore up 2 on my 2002 M2 (one might have been due to an 85 mph wreck at the track though). The Harley part was redesigned, but it doesn't fit on the Buell. So they took all the old ones, and repackaged them in Buell parts bags or so it seemed from the last one I bought.

There is also one made by a company called Velvaride, but it has got terrible reviews here

Has anyone approached BMC on the updated isolator failures? You'd think there would be some product testing to go along with the updating. My 2000 M2 has eaten two of the updated isolators in a short amount of miles like Koz - well, not exactly like Koz. :-)
I'm now using one from JP Cycles (PN#4300140) which is probably similar to what Jireh is selling, and it looks like it's going to last much longer than the 300ish mile lifespan of the updated HD part. Captain Nate had sent me one to try that he got from Barry's Mfg. (he's a sweet-talker apparently), and it died just as quickly as the HD part - not much of a surprise since they make the part for HD.
