I also posted in the quick list. Broke my speedo cable today. Ordered (2) new from Buell but they won't be here in time for sportfest this weekend. I'm weird, I don't like riding or driving things that aren't logging miles, even if its only 150 or so. SO. Anyone know if there's a usable-even-if-not-perfect crossover to a HD speedometer drive cable, maybe from a Sportster or something? The cable measures 35" from the drive ring to the other end where it screws into the speedo (not counting the drive, or the nut at the other end). Better yet, anyone have one they aren't using? Used is OK, it just has to get me through a weekend... |

An S1(W) uses the same basic speedo drive unit as a Sporty, so a cable from one may fit. Don't know about the length though. What broke on the cable? Chances are that if it needs a new inner cable or the end repaired, a lock shop that also calibrates speedometers may be able to fix it. One such shop built a speedo correction gearbox for my kit car. They may have the means to put a drive end on a universal inner cable or on a longer one (sized to fit) that you bring in from another bike. |

I broke the inner drive, at the wheel end. For $15 (retail - I pay less as an employee), I can wait a week...it'd probably cost more than that to get it repaired! I ordered (2) so I'd have one in the garage for "next time". I'm going to look at an S2 today too...so I should still be able to get my "Buell Fix" even if the S1 is down for repairs |
