Nice pics Jodie! I'd post some but I'm in Utah for work. On your kickstand, did you lengthen or just bend to get the foot to sit properly. I've been thinking about adding a 1/2" so the bike won't be leaning over quite so much when parked. When I get back I'm gonna post some pics and be getting my frame ready for paint. I have to do a bit of sanding and final welds, but everything is located. I had a pic similar to yours except no tire on the back instead of the front. Good to hear from you again! Been a bit quite without you around... I just put a triangle relief cut in the back of the stand then bent it so it made the foot contact the ground flat, then welded back up. Brodies going great  Hows Ian going? cheers Jodie | ||

he was doing fine when I left, but I guess he's pretty stuffed up and all the past few days. Weather took a turn for the worse and has been in the 30's in Ohio. It's damn nice here though, 70 and sunny. Looks like it worked well, and being that I don't need much it may be a better idea than adding length. Did it help keep the stand away from the swingarm? as I was going to add material to the stand by the pivot to keep it from contacting the swingarm, since I don't have the passenger sets with the stand stop anymore. They will be dropped from the subframe, I have the reliefs and nuts there just haven't made the actual drops yet. Weather still looks to be holding out for ya... I tried renting a bike(any bike) out here but they wanted too much for them-all they had were the big hogs(130 USD) and I wanted a little pig(hopefully much less  ). | ||

Jodie, sorry to hijack your thread. Corey, how long are you in Utah? Are you in the Salt Lake area? I work with a few guys that have rental co's and I can see if someone will swing good buddy discount for you. The HD dealership wants way too much for a day rental... Ralph Little or no oil gets to these bearings! Jodie,yesterday I looked behind that seal on my Cyclone and the bearing was very well oiled.No need for additional grease or oil,IMO. The mentioned 5th gear (mostly) main bearings failures appear from overtightened belts,not from beeing underoiled. They fail from moisture and lack of lube too! IMO you were LUCKY! My mod gives me piece of mind that I wont need to worry about the bearings inside my 5th gear... You can agree or disagree | ||

I've been watching this post for a while and think this is a great job of fabricating. I have a few questions for you. How did you determine final ride height? What are you using for the final drive, early XB, late XB, or tuber belt? How are you going to tension the belt since you lost the adjustable features of the original swingarm. What year XB rear sprocket are you using to work with the tuber output sprocket? Have you figured what to use for oil lines? Sorry about all the questions, once again nice job!! | ||

Thanks Ralph.... Beatx1 thankyou and it's good your asking questions. If you look in the archives you will see I made a stand to retain the original ride height prior to modifications(I did give myself an extra top shock mount hole for option of raising ride height) The belt will be a Gates 135T no adjustment needed. Belt will run loose like I've always run them. In the 52000klms my old belt did only ever removed and replaced the rear wheel for tyre changes never to tighten my belt. Modified 55T tube frame rear pulley(pic's in archives) and 26T front pulley from Baker. I also have a 27T front(From Ceejay) I will use if extra belt tension needs to be taken up. These ratio's I can live with as 26/55 gives the same ratio as my old 29/61 and 27/55 is a little higher, but not as high Australian stock ratio of 29/55. Oil lines will be of a braided type with stainless fittings, oil lines will run through the triangular section of my exhaust pipe as on the XB's. Cheers Jodie | ||

can I add some! bike has changed a bit, I went with an XB rear wheel and I am going with a different front sprocket-still will be a chain. The frame should be ready to paint by the weekend and then I can put most of her back together. I still need to make up a fairing support which will also hold the headlights and guages(oil pressure, tach, key, and maybe oil temp) along with a bracket to hang the VR from but most of that stuff is minor-just time is all. Still need to finish polish the swingarm and camcover.   | ||

hey Jodie-I'm going to use a baker pulley to keep the chain off of the swingarm mount block and then use an idler similar to the XB's to keep out the slack when unsprung. I need to show them how to work on thier own, so they'll quite trying to help with mine | ||

damn Jodie-at first look, it would seem you could have ridden it there! what you got left, just paint? rear fender the color of white your going with. Thing is gonna pop with that sunset orange frame! I talked to a few anodizers around here and I should be able to get all the stuff I want done, forks, swingarm, and rearsets for less than 200. Should be someone out your way who does this stuff. The rest is gonna be on me with painting and the like. I'm hoping to get the darn thing back on two wheels by May, and then it will just be the fairing to go, which won't be tough, just have to get it done. | ||

Thanks Corey, I wish I did ride it there! The fender is still in primer as I bought it, I guess being out in the sun makes it look painted. I haven't even tried to get prices for anodizing yet(need to win Lotto!) | ||

As far as the length I got 57.75 for a wheelbase, thus about an inch and a half longer than my original M2, which I ran pretty much near the front of the rear wheel's adjustment point(loose as possible on the belt) At first I thought it was odd that the XB swingarm was actually longer than the tubers-they'd be about the same length if you used the furthest rear adjustment for the tuber center axle to center pivot. They sure cut some length out with the XB frame and tighter rake. This has also been what has caused a bit of problem with me running a taller ride height. since the XB motors have the swingarm mount cast into them as well as the motor mount cast above them, the pivot point for the swingarm essentially has been moved further away from the output shafton my bike than what they are on XB's, thus meaning there's not much room to move the rear wheel down before it comes into contact with the swingarm mount block. Corey I remeasured my wheelbase just now and mine is 57.25" in your language and 1454mm in mine. I guess using the XB forks and triples has shortened mine a little. I know when I was comparing the S3 and the XB triples there was a difference in the offsets. XB's making the the forks closer to the frame. I'd like to be able to measure the weight balance front to rear once its all back together, I believe it will carry more weight on the front now as opposed to the old more rear biased setup. Jodie, I've been thinking the same, I have access to a big scale, but I'm not sure that's the way to do it-one tire on, one tire off...but of course I have to get the damn thing done first I'd be surprised if the XB's triple made up half an inch, and be more believing if it was a difference in the neck rake. not sure though as I can't find any info on the S3. M2 was 24.5. I know mine feels much better than it used to. | ||

The spec sheet in my owners manual says S3 has 25 degrees rake. The XB forks are shorter in length than the S3's not sure how this may effect the wheel base, I know it will help sharpen the steering though. |
