I bought a M2 tank for the S1. Will the Gas cap and chrome ring from the S1 tank fit the M2 tank. |

as far as i know, they will. i have used a number of different tanks with different caps/rings, all work fine. note, all the keyed caps that were on S3s are keyed alike. as far as i have seen, the many i have tried will all open with any key. |

Ditto. I put the M2 tank on my S1. Used the ring, cap & petcock from the S1. Had to have risers made for my Crossroads bars to clear the tank though. |

Yep, the cap, ring, and petcock transfer. The screws that hold the petcock in are different though (and vary from year to year of M2, even). I don't remember the size off hand, but it's in the parts book. |

If you put a bigger (Manta) M2 tank on an S1, you should be able to use the S1W Crossroads bars - the S1W came with the larger tank from the factory. Doublecheck with Al at American Sport Bike though.... |

I use the S1W crossroads bars on my bike. The exterior of the tank is the same on S1W, S3(T), and M2. Now using a 98 S3T tank, previously had my original M2 tank on. No clearance probs. -Mike |

The ring and cap are the same, however the S1 tank has different screws than the manta tank. |

The little rubber splash guard will shrink (dessicate?) if you take it out and don't put it back in right away. I had so much trouble getting it back on after painting my tank, I bought another one. It was still a tight fit until the new one was re-plialized by fuel vapor. I just made that word up, btw. |

re-what? Those splash guard things are an absolute pain, I also had trouble with mine. Also had to loosen the locknut on the bottom of the gas cap to get the locking tab to flip down. Tightened it up later for a good seal once the rubber had been exposed to gas and re-plialized. Oh yeah, if you replace the breather line for the gas tank make sure the line is big enough. I bought two different diameter lines and had to change to the larger when the bike stalled out several times, starving for fuel. Maybe that's common sense but the line shrinks due to the exposure to vapors and made it hard to tell what size was correct. Any English majors that can tell us how many words Shakespeare(sp?) added to the dictionary? |
