Does anyone know if the oil tank from a 95S2 will work in a 98 S1. If they are different, is it just a matter of welding on brackets in alternate locations? I would like to have an aluminum tank rather than the plastic unit. Thanks | ||

The S2 and S1 oil tanks are 2 different animals. There would be a lot of work needed to mount a S2 oil tank on a S1 frame. I know American Sport Bike has offered aluminum oil tanks in the past as I got one and sent it to a friend in Germany for his X1. The part wasn't cheap, but the quality was worth the price (as with all of Al's parts). 1313  | ||

I second the above. Probably the easiest way would be to graft or reproduce the S2 tail section. | ||

Thanks for the feedback. I don't want to fab a tailsection. If it was just a matter of cutting off the M2 brackets and welding on new ones in the right location, I would be happy to do it. It would have been nice if the stock tank held more oil. I figure that the aluminum one would dissapate heat better than plastic. | ||

Well I'm in the same boat, Eshardball, I bought one of those S2 aluminum tanks from eBay, it was described as an S3 tank, and I didn't do the research. So now I got the tank, and it won't even nearly bolt-on to my Y2K M2. I'm still scratching my head on this one. Both how to mount it, and how I was so dumb to buy it first, check for fit later... | ||

sorry guys the s2 frame is a completely different bird in those areas. the s2 was the last had built, bike.. everything after that changed.. the rear seat supports went up and in. that is why you can run an aluminum swing arm and it works fine. but on a s2 you only get about 1" of swing before the aluminum hits the seat support parts of the frame.. unless you mod other things  and stop starin up her skirt any ways!!! | ||

nope but mine is a s2t.. notice the big aluminum side plates,, well they are powder caoted to match the frame but any ways,, they keep the pants back.. not sure on the latter models.. just look at yours and move your feet on your pegs like you are riding and watch how your feet, pants, shoes move.. youll know if they look too close....  | ||

Ran without the front pulley cover on my S2 for awhile and had my pants tugged on a couple times and decided to put the front pulley cover back on...... | ||

i have never had a problem ,, but then i do where size 13 shoes,, moves the feet back further.. thats also why im probably gonna make small al brackets to move the passenger pegs back another 1 1/2 inches... |
