I've been wanting to remove the rear tire hugger on my 99-M2. Currently have the rear wheel off to repair the tire. Was going to remove the hugger while the wheel is off.

Problem is, the bike is jacked up using the rear shock and the swing-arm is in the way of the bolts holding on the hugger. Can't move the swing-arm since it's locked up due to the jack under the shock.

Will I be able to snake the hugger out of the bike once the wheel is back on and I can move the swing-arm out of the way, or is there some other method?

Thanks.

Bryan

I took mine off in a parking lot one day....

just get the torx bit... remove the 4 torx screws... and wiggle it out... its semi pliable plastic, so....

Place auto stands under each foot peg, and then lower the bike onto them (using rags/padding to protect the pegs). With the bike resting on the footpegs/stands you can remove the jack under the shock.

I had my M2 on rear swing arm stand. Just had to put my weight on the seat to compress the rear enough to get to the bolts. (rim/tire was still on the bike)

You'll love how it looks w/o the hugger, but I tend to hit some gravel backroads so clean-up is definitely worse, now.

Got the hugger off with out any issues. Also removed the lower (rear) belt guard. Love the way it opens up the back end of the bike.

Now I'm trying to decide how I want to cut down or remove the tail plastic. Been looking at the photoshop pics in the thread re: Opinion of M2 w/o plastic.

It's a difficult decision. Anyone know where there's an M2 tail for sale? Even one w/ some damage would be OK. Would love to have one to butcher for practice.

I think I've worked up the nerve to attack mine tonight. I'll post here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/265321.html?1174424942 when I finish it.

Just finished my chopping. Here's just one pic (I don't want to hi-jack your thread, too much)

Don't worry about the hi-jack. We've actually got two threads going on the same subject. Been following your chop-job on the other thread w/ great interest. Will post my comments over there.
