It's a bulb, and you need small wrists to weasel in and get it from backside. |

Can you loan me a weasel and some one with small wrists? Do I have to remove anything on the fairing to make changing the bulb easier? |

I just did mine and it's a pain to get to. I removed the fairing to do some other stuff and I took the headlight assembly out of the fairing brace. If you do that be very careful the headlight adjuster clips they break easily. Just be patient and go slow it can be done. |

5liter=> do you take off the fairing and remove the WHOLE head lite? Is there enough wire to make it acsessable? This is Frustrating!! |

M2statz: Yup. That's the only way I got to mine. If you have BIG hands it might be a problem. You have to compress the clips on the headlight mounting threaded pieces. Do one at a time with a small screw driver to push down on the release tabs and they will push through the bracket. You can then pull the headlight out JUST enough to pull the connector loose. It's a very small space to work with. When you put the headlight back you have to fiddle around and get the connector back on the light while getting the adjuster rods through the mounting bracket. WHEW!!!! Tap the light gently to get the clips popped back in. Don't hit it hard or you'll break the clips and the light will be loose. Don't ask me how I found that out!

A couple of pics. The black clips are the ones to be careful with.

If you are in a pinch you can reach in with a flat screwdriver and pop the clips. I've done that a couple of times but it is just about as easy to remove the fairing. |

I hasn't yet. But looking at the adjuster screws one has a black knobby thing on it that won't come off. Looks like an "e-z" twist adjuster the the PO may be left on. Should have more time this weekend if the kids quit puking. Thanks |

I use small channel lock pliers to squeeze the clip catches together just a little away from the fairing spider and then push the catch forward to release it. No removal of the fairing required. You will need to remove the adjuster knob on the lower left bolt. There is a small lock nut holding it. NOTE: If you use a 80/100Watt or 55/100Watt bulb it will melt the bulb holder! I put a ring of aluminum foil around the metal base of the bulb that extends out past the boot by about 2" to dissipate the heat. Not pretty, but it works and is hidden in the fairing spider. |

Hi Robert, Can you tell me more about how to make the foil thingy to get rid of the heat? Can I then use any automotive cheapo HID 55/100 halogen bulb in my S3? Thanks!

I use 55/100 hal and no mods no heat prob . + next time my fairing comes off I will make a access vented door for bulb for replace ment.On trips a blown bulb is a pain! S2 better engineered in that location.Butch |
