It used to happen rarely now every other time I hit the starter button. It sounds like a rapid knocking/clicking sound anybody know what it is? |

Maybe the starter solenoid.Made by Nippondenso. Replace the contacts and the plunger Use the STARTER SOLENOID REPAIR KIT P/N 31603-91 from Harley. or you can by them from a Toyota dealer. It's an easy fix. Good advices on that http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/Starter.sh tml http://www.tacomaterritory.com/boophoenix/starter. html Starter parts for Nippondenso OSGR(Offsetgearreduction)starters and solenoids. http://www.startercontacts.com/ Ralph |

Before you spend money on anything: Check for corrosion in fusebox. take out, clean and WD40 all fuses, the two diodes and the two relays. |

Hmm I did a search on the forum and found weak battery as a cause on numerous threads, so I tried jumping from good battery and no more nasty sound, now I have to figure why it wont start, fired right up yesterday. How easy is it to flood and if it does can I just turn off the fuel and turn it over a few times clear out the extra gas? Ive got spark, and fuel so Im thinking it may be flooded. Thanks guys Dan |

Hey. Of course I thought you checked your cables, the battery, relays and diodes already before you asked for help. Ralph |

Sorry Ralph I had no idea where to start and posted before searching, So where Im at now is last night I put back on the body panel that goes around the seat, I had it off cause it cracked, so I put it on, fired it up and ran fine. then today went to start is and starter turns, I have spark, I have gas but no ignition any ideas of where to start looking, could I have bumped a connection that would allow it to turn over but not start. I only know the basics and I have fuel, spark, and air. (Message edited by freeflyer on March 11, 2007) |

OK new development now I also have to pull in clutch even though in neutral to turn the engine over, even though the neutral light is still coming on, it wasnt like this earlier when the problem first started, also I noticed no red lights when turning on ignition and tried starting with the kickstand up. Also, check the washer between the rear grounding strap and the frame. Mine rusted and caused the clicking sound till it finally caused the bike not to start or charge. Replace it witha stainless pies and never worry again. |
