I have a new belt on the way from Al, and thought I would get everything ready. These are my front and rear drive pulley's. The front looks like satin chrome finish, the rear the same except for flaking of the finish. I think I need to replace my rear, what do you guys think?
Does any one have a spare rear drive pulley to fit a 97 s3t??????????????

Thanks for any help
Mike

by FSM thats a yes, mine has looked like that for a while, it is gradualy getting worse as the plating is comming off.

I am continuing to run it

I dont have a difinative answer the aluminum under the chrome is soft and will wear quicker as I understand it.

My rear pulley looks just like that one.
I haven't bothered to replace mine yet.
If/when my most recent belt goes, I'll probably replace the pulleys too.

But will the belt wear out prematurely because of this?

in that the belt teeth are resiliant on the surface not likely, if the teeth on the pully are deformed off of pitch, then yes

Thats what I think.. YMMV

From the FSM

pg1-26
If chrome chips or gouges to the rear sproket are large enough to be harmful they will leave a pattern on the belt face.

inspect each sprocket tooth for

major tooth damage
large chrome chips with sharp edges
gouges caused by hard objects
excessive loss of plating
******************************************
plating can be checked by scratch testing
if you can scratch it easily its to be replaced according to the fsm.

My plating didn't last 10,000 before it was falling apart.
First belt went at 45,000.
second at 60,000 (said sportster on it :P )
Third still going at 72,000 (Uly belt)

Thanks Jim & Nate

I am going to run my old pulley for a while and watch the belt for signs of wear.
I can,t wait until I get enough time with my thunderbolt to be able to offer advice on this site. You guys are invaluable.
