Hey guys, I did a search but couldn't turn up what I was looking for...
I have a '97 M2 and I'm looking to get some good aftermarket pegs, what other Buell model pegs would work on an M2. For example do pegs made for an S1 or an X1 work on my M2, or do I havta find ones specifically for my make?

Well .. I believe Buell still sells the Pro-Series Billet pegs, should be able to see them on Buell.com, popular choice ..

Pro-Series Billet pegs ...

You can check American Sportbike, they have quite a few choices as far as pegs ..

The only peg from another model that you might want are X1 billet spring loaded pegs, some dealers may tell you they are no longer available .. well - technically they aren't - but all the parts are still available - the pegs have to be found through HD's VPN (vintage parts network) - meaning once they are all gone- they are gone. (I have these on both my 99 M2, and 97 S1 .. polished the S1's, coated black the M2's)

X1 pegs....

I have the crossfires, look like the buell race pieces. They where made by crossroads but since has been sold to american sport bike. Nice quality, simple, and light. But for the S3 and touring I prefer the big rubber coated Buell units.

those X1 pegs are the millenium model pieces. there is a part number and price listed in the knowledge vault on one of the headings, I'll see if I can find it for you, they are decent pegs for a pretty good price if still available...

Most aftermarket pegs should be fine, take off a passenger peg and compare the parts to those on the rack at your local shop, just to answer your first question.

Those aren't valid numbers any longer ... that is why I didn't reference it. I just went through buying the 2 sets I did about a month ago .. very few part #'s are the same ... and very few prices are the same. I'd post up the related part #'s but I don't have my receipt on hand .. I e-mailed them to Spidey after I bought them ... maybe I still have the e-mail ...

2 footpeg P/N VPN0403.Q - $27.90
2 footpeg P/N VPN0404.Q - $27.90
2 footpeg pivot pin spring P/N C0236.Q - $27.50
2 screw, socket head P/N AA0407.3CBZ
2 nut, 3/8 thin nylock P/N DA0600.8CZ
2 clip, external P/N L0175.9
2 washer, t-bar P/N BA0610.1SS
2 pin, footpeg pivot P/N C0237.Q - $17.70

I did have the e-mail I sent to Spidey ... I only listed the prices that were significantly different from the list in the KV .. prices I have listed are for the pair. The footpeg part #'s are for the aluminum ones.

Also - this is for a front and back swap, only the fronts get the springs, the rear mount like the stockers.

Heh .. I'm the one who's sorry - wish I could've got 'em prior to the P/N and price changes!

I bought 'em anyway because with the pegs being VPN's .. once they are gone, they are gone ... still cheaper than the Pro Series pegs ... I may even get another set before they're all bought up .. just in case ... lol

I bought a set of billet pegs from "Billet To Race" on e-bay. I had them on my last S1 and they were great pegs! Very well built! They are available in regular or short lengths. Here's the link.

I had a set of the Buell Pro-series pegs on my last S1. They ARE NOT Billet! They are a cast peg. Mine had a defect/to short of bolt in it and I popped the front end off the ground leaving a parking lot one day and my left peg snapped clean off! The day before I had been doing 80mph standing on the pegs!! I'm really glad it broke when it did, I went to the solid Billet pegs right after. Here's a link to the old thread I started with pics of the broken peg.

I got the same pegs from the "Billet To Race" guy, along with relocators for my M2. I was very impressed with the customer service after the sale. I had a little problem getting the relocators to stay tight on the frame. They immediately sent me a number of revised fasteners at no charge and made sure I was absolutely satisfied.

Their stuff works and is reasonably priced.

I can't speak for the Buell pro series pegs, I've always thought they were billet pegs made for Buell by Crossroads. But I know for sure that the Crossroads pegs are billet.

The millenium X1 pegs that look very similar to the Buell pro series and Crossroads pegs are forged, not billet, and are more brittle than the crossroads pegs.

There are several alternatives:
The aforemention Crossroads (now American Sport Bike, since we bought the Crossroads buell line)

The Billet Storz pegs

The LSL scalloped pegs (requires pegs plus Bases)

The LSL race round pegs (requires bases)

My used M2 came with Storz pegs, but I bought and put on rubber pegs because the vibration was just too much. I don't touch the pegs down anyway or at least haven't yet. The rubber ones are cheap too, I got them offn ebay for like $10.

Also the Storz being round on top, makes it even worse. If I was going for metal pegs, I would get them flat on top, like the Pro Series or the Crossroads, not the LSL's. Unless you're racing of course, then get the LSLs, because they have replacable pegs.

Buell advertised their Pro Race pegs as billet. If they're not, I'm suing them for cheating me out of my money.

Joker Machine makes a decent set, too.

I ended up buying a set of pegs used on the new Sportster R's and StreetRods. They are short, low profile painted die-cast metal with rubber inserts. I've nearly bailed on several occasions due to my feet sliding off my wore out Crossroads pegs when wet. These are fairly heavy but work well.

Rocketman, maybe they made a couple versions on the "Pro Race" pegs? Mine definitely wasn't billet, it was cast. The ones from "Billet to Race" are machined out of a solid piece of billet, not two parts like the Pro Race pegs. Here are a few pics of my Pro Race pegs that broke and a couple of the Billet To Race shorty pegs that I replaced them with.

This peg broke clean off the bike while I was riding it! It was obvious after it broke that the bolt holding the two pieces together wasn't long enough and didn't protrude into the footpeg area. The only thing holding the two halves together was a thin piece of cast aluminum! After seeing how they were made and how that one broke I decided to go to solid Billet pegs so I didn't have to worry about them breaking again. If you are using them I would check your bolts and make sure they are long enough.

These are the Billet To Race Shorty pegs that I replaced them with. I wanted a Solid peg after that experience.

My Crossroads have been crash tested, and deemed damn stout.

I've also ground them on the track hard enough to nearly lift the wheels off the ground.

if you can go with something one piece billet i highly recommend it. these are ones i designed and made for my s2t. pegs are sort of a personal choice.. some prefer more rounded top others flat. personally i like ones with a little lip on the out side. it allows me to put a little more outward pressure when shifting weight on "wet" days.. i made these pegs for my s2t and designed them to the width of my feet..

I bought that pro series stuff, the ace bars cracked at the bracket so got my money back, the foot rests are bl@@dy horrible and when I get some spare cash they will be changed...there must be better aftermarket ones out there....keep clear of the Buell stuff IMO
