i'm a chopper guy (sorry!) and an XB rider, however... i'm lookin' for my third bike to be an old school buell. once again, badweb comes to the rescue with it's infinite network of knowledge! what kind of differences can i expect out of, say, an S1 versus an M1, etc? i won't even tell ya what i'm lookin' for, so just tell me what ya got. so basically this is a thread to brag about your tuber! thanx again, guys! and just for everyone who thinks i'm an idiot... you're right, but that's against the point. m1's are guns, m2's are buells, and i know better. Well... 99 x1, carbon kevlar(carbon fiber), 249 of 250 1250cc Full D&D exhaust(going to a force soon) etc etc The rest you can see, EVERYTHING alluminum is polished..these pics are a couple onths old, and it looks a little different now.. Anyway... S1, short tail, best looking buell.. 54mm inverted forks... best of the pre 99 buells.. the 98 S1W had the t-storm heads, though, which..well, you know.. M2 pre 99, pretty much a stock sprty motor, with 45 mm conventional forks...still good looking, keeps similar lines to the S1, just a bit longer in the body.. X1, well, its T-storm heads, N4 cams(or equivilant), fuel infection(mine has been problem free) same spirit as the S1, with a different tail, and FI... S2, dont know much about this bike..so, no comment there S3, well, 99 and newer are basically the same drivetrain as the X1, with lower controls, and taller bars.. oh yeah, body work as well... Thats the cliff notes version... Chase |

M2, the absolute best, most reliable, tube frame Buell ever produced, period. I thought everybody knew that. |

I have an s3. See profile for pic. Being you have an XB and a Chopper already, the S2 or S3 with the Touring package (Bags and fairings) would be the best choice in my opinion because it would fill out your stable best and give you a sport-touring type of ride. The s2 is similar to the S3. Not sure on the actual specs, but I had the chance to ride one once. They feel smaller than the s3 and I believe `97 was the last year - so they are more of an old school hand built buell. Its often said you sit more Inside an s2 and more "on" an s3. Check out this thread though http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/252669.html?1166477807 (Message edited by naustin on February 15, 2007) |

96 was the last S2, S3 has more power, S2 had "H-D" style controls. |

The X1 is pretty easy to work on with a removable hatch on the frame on the right side to replace the isolators or drive belt. The advantages of the M2 are primarily confort and simplicity. (but they don't have the frame thingy like the X1s do for some reason) I would suggest that you get one with a healthy amount of miles on it already so that all of the bugs are worked out. Like about 20,000 miles or so. My first 20,000 miles were the worst. |

I've got two ... S1 and M2 ... the M2 is a great all around bike ... sport, touring .. whatever .. the S1 ... well, it's an S1 - it is what it is ... baddest Buell ever made IMHO ... the ultimate streetfighter .. That being said - since you are a chopper guy, the S1, or S2 may not be what you want .. I'd direct you to an S3, M2 or X1 .. the S1 and S2 are a bit more raw - kinda like your choppers - while the S3, M2 and even the X1 are a bit more refined .. All in all - I would say an M2 ... best of all worlds. 99 M2 (the tourer, 2-uppper, commuter, and good for the twisties as well with enough torque to keep you grinning)(although mine is a little different than a normal M2 - I swapped for an X1 front end (inverted forks for better handling) and an X1 chin spoiler for looks)
97 S1 (the attention getter, the original badass Buell, the bar hopper, the solo rider and as Motorcycle Online says - "the bike that has the 'I hate everyone but my rider' attitude )

Hands down the S1 - King of the "Old School Buell's" Of course I'm pretty bias since I own a S1 There are tons of S1 pics here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/47623/239989.html Here's a couple pics of my S1. Mods are listed in my profile. Hodakaguy

97 S1 (the attention getter, the original badass Buell, the bar hopper, the solo rider and as Motorcycle Online says - "the bike that has the 'I hate everyone but my rider' attitude ) while they are the barnone toughest looking ones, I think they also hate their rider, as man those things aren't much for comfort. I vote for an S3, as to me the M2 while it may be the best true motorcycle, you already have a corner carver/commuter(XB), a bar hopper(chopper) now all you'd need is, as some others have said, a tourer. The M2 is an excellent compromise of all three, and since your one of the lucky ones who's able to own multiples, might as well get specific. Plus they are damn beautiful scoots. |

P.S ! I can't decide if black wheels on my ride would look better (to me) than the polished. If someone would be kind enough to photo shop my wheels to black I would much appreciate it! Keith |

Hodakaguy, I took my V&H muffler apart, took the slip on part to my good friend at Muffler Master and had him weld some stubby little car muffler with the same inside diameter as the header to the slip mount. Then cut and shortened the carbon fiber and fashioned the new muffler to exit out the old tip! She sounds bitchin' |

Fighter, love the high rise front fender, Black XB style or five or six spoke rims would look sweet on that bike, (course I love the blacked out look) I would say get yours Powder coated, but you'd probably be better off selling the PM's and then buying black rims. |

For me it was the S1, the first time I saw a yellow S1 in person that got me wanting a Buell, but many years later, it was ultimately the M2 that got me to buy a Buell. My profile has a recent picture of my M2, it's nothing compared to some of you guy's amazing bikes. |

Warning about getting an S2. It a long term investment cause you can never bring yourself to get rid of it.

The S2 imo is a do it all bike. fun to cruise with big enough to tour with, and loads of fun to ride aggresive on. |
